Borgetti to FCD?
December 22nd, 2008 . 7:52 am . By: Chamo JonesIn the past week, the Mexican press has reported that Jared Borgetti will be headed to MLS next year. The first team mentioned as the destination was FC Dallas, and later they also mentioned Chivas USA as a possibility. Borgetti will announce which club he is interested in playing for in January. Borgetti does match the credentials that coach Hyndman mentioned recently as one of the players that they are looking at bringing in. Personally, I hope that it is the latter. Two years ago I would have loved to have seen Borgetti wearing the FCD colors. Last year Borgetti was rumored to be headed to Colorado, but his value was high enough in Mexico that he opted to stay in Mexico. This year the only clubs in Mexico that are showing interest for Borgetti are in Primera A (A-League equivalent). His production over the last two years has dropped that much. And then there is the fact FCD already has a young forward that is just entering his prime that already is producing to the level you would expect from a big signing. He also appears to be willing to make this his long term home if he is made the right offer. It just doesn’t make sense to pay “the name” with the hope that he will rediscover the form that would be on a par with what they already have. The marketing of “the name”? Please! FC Dallas has shown over and over again that they have no idea to how to market names. Here are the articles (en español) 7 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Please no, I hate that prick!
Amen, Gar.
didn’t we just do this same thing for our backline? How’d that work?
Primera is the first division
Primera “A” is the second division.
As long as he is acquired for less than a DP contract, I would be quite proud of a Borgetti signing. Anything over $400K (hell, even $300K) is a blatant slap in the face to many FCD fans, because if having a DP was so necessary for the Hunts, they should have gone for Appiah.
Talent brings crowds too, HSG. And that goes for the Chiefs, too…
There’s no need for him here. Unless Kenny heads to Europe, I’d say keep him as a possible replacement.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him here, but only if he’s willing to take a major pay cut. Say, what they were paying Kenny before they renegotiated his contract, $80,000.
I agree, he is not a strong player anymore, if the objective is to atract the Mexican fans, save the money, they will not come to see him play, at least not in the numbers that they show up for Blanco
