Appiah to FCD?

December 22nd, 2008 . 10:52 am . By: Chamo Jones

According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post, FC Dallas had a real chance at acquiring a legit DP but they got nervous when it was time to write the check.

The club initiated plans to bring Appiah to Washington for meetings, but in the end, for reasons unclear, decided not to seriously pursue him.

In stepped FC Dallas, which is in the market for international help. FCD was also prepared to fly Appiah in and discuss a possible deal. How eager was Coach Schellas Hyndman to open talks? To the point where he was planning to fly to Europe. However, management determined the $2 million salary figure was more than it would be willing to spend on a designated player and the situation fizzled.

True #10, 28 years old, sometimes-captain of his world-cup qualifying country, doing well in big European clubs… No, not worth $2 million.
Kidding aside, I can see why the FO would have reservations, since this wouldn’t get the publicity that $2 million could potentially buy in another player, but damn it would been nice to have him on the pitch.

It’s not just that, Steve… As world class as you think he is, he has been with 6 clubs in his career and he can’t take care of himself physically. FCD wasn’t the only ones who thought the price was too high. Just ask Tottenham Hotspur…

I think the statement is more troubling to me in that it implies FCD isn’t willing to spend 2 million on ANY player.

Winning, not “names” brings in fans on a long-term basis…especially in DFW.

This would have been nice… I didn’t even know he was available. I’d love to see some breakdown of the world-class players who are out-of-contract/free-agent right now…

i’m gonna try to be an optimist and think that another player is in the works. the key word is TRY…which is pretty hard to do when you have a FO like we have.

let’s talk draft, buzz. where’s the mock draft?
