Davino & Sikora

December 5th, 2008 . 12:31 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Soccer America has a nice recap on the FCD money situation that includes some tidbits on Sikora and the Davino buyout

Here’s the key piece of info: FCD used some allocation money to buy down the value of the Davino buyout’s impact on the cap.  Ridge says by using Alvarez and Thompson trade money, that only a “fraction” of the buyout will be on the cap. Since the buyout was likely less than the total $400, we’re talking maybe $100k, maybe $50k cap hit?

FCD should have plenty of room now to make moves this winter as they still have all the Toja transfer money ($500k?) and will get some more cash via the league YS allocation for missing the playoffs (a major ~$400?).  Without knowing the exact numbers on Davino, there may be some cash left over from Alvarez and Thompson trade partial allocations.

Also of note is Victor Sikora is in talks with a team in Australian.  So the odds he’s coming back to Dallas are looking slim.

Sorry to hear about Sikora – it just didn’t work out here. Don’t blame either side for moving on.

Too bad. It was nice seeing someone who can use both feet.

I’ll miss Victor. He was a great addition to the team IMO and I hope his career gets better and better.

Hopefully that Aussie team is Sydney FC…

Australia? Isn’t the Australian A-League still a noticeable step down from MLS? Or am I underestimating it? I got the impression once that some of the teams in their top flight were still kinda in the semi-Pro range and more comparable to USL-1 than MLS.
