Ricchetti gone?

November 21st, 2008 . 1:44 pm . By: Chamo Jones

Denise Isla of the spanish speaking paper Diario La Estrella published an article yesterday that had comments from both Ricchetti and Hyndman following their end of season exit interview.

The highlights of the article :

  • Ricchetti: – “After the meeting I feel more on the outside than the inside”.
  •

  • Hyndman: – “This is strange to me. I think a contract is a contract and you can bet that if one gets a raise the rest will get in line asking for the same thing. Every player has a contract, and I always think why did you sign the contract? If you did it two years ago, it supposes that you were happy with the contract, and now a year or two later you want a new contract because you played well. It’s not only Pablo there are others.”
  •

  • Hyndman: – “I’m adjusting to dealing with this aspect of the professional game. I understand the players position because their earning years are limited. I’m glad Hitchcock is there to handle the negotiations. In my opinion, Pablo is the best player on the team but we didn’t make the playoffs and he wasn’t an all-star. To let him go would help other teams. He is a key for us. But in the end it will be his decision.”
  •

  • Richetti: – “I have been honoring the contract by playing at a high level while being compensated below market value for two years. I have asked my agent to get permission to negotiate with the Galaxy next week. I think they will be willing to sign a more appropriate contract given that their coach has expressed interest in me”
  •

  • Richetti: – “Some Mexican clubs have expressed interest in my services. I also would consider playing there.”
  • Keep in mind that I don’t tend to do literal translations but rather focus on the content. The Hyndman translation might be butchered some as it likely has been translated from English to Spanish (by Denise); back to English (by me).

Boy do we have holes to fill if this guy leaves.

This kind of talk gets me worried that FCD is about to sink a ton of cash into an over the hill DP this winter. I think we’d be much better off with a young, balanced team that has a little bit of experience working together, with perhaps two new Toja-like guys with a chip on their shoulder.

I get it, though – easier said than done.

You know, I would hate to lose Pablo, but SH is correct, if you don’t like the contract don’t sign it. Good performance should be rewarded with bonuses that are placed into the contract.
If Pablo does not like his contract he should blame his agent not FCD.

If Pablo goes to the Galaxy we better get something big back from them. Sean Franklin would work…

So Richetti is one of the best players on the team, but they can’t throw him a bit more money to keep him? Seriously?

Get used to seeing a starting midfield of Guarda and Saragosa next year. Does it get much worse than that?

if he stays I wouldn’t mind seeing McCarty at D-mid or even Serioux. I liked how McCarty played with the youth national teams there but I realize Hyndman does not seem to like him.

Richetti was very good towards the end of the season but early in the year he was awful. If he is complaining about his contract again the team will probably start in a hole if they are counting on him playing as he did at the end of the year.

it’s unfortunate that pablo feels this way, but it’s the nature of sports and what you feel like you’re worth.

as mentioned, maybe they can move serioux to D-mid and move andre to RB since he’s played there before. fill the wings w/ sikora and avi if possible. but, w/ their size, you may give up some on the defensive end.

That is why i trust the market…if he is worth more he will, in the end, get paid what he is worth. Professional sports is like that…FCD can trap Kenny and Pablo inside of bad deals but when there contract is up they will get nothing for them.

Pay them what they are worth or sell them while they are worth something. FCD makes a choice.

“Deal is a deal”? hey man, this aint college. Again, sell them or pay them but barking at them to honor their contract just means you get nothing when their time is up.

Seriously, where do we find these people? i have never negotiated a sports contract but i know how this game works better then FCD chiefs. Yeesh

If he was awful, how hell he won the defeder of the year award?
And how he can be the best player of the team for our coach? (that is not true, the best is Guarda)

He was awful at the beginning of the year and many games looked as though he didn’t want to be playing (LA Galaxy blowout) and was a major part the first coach was fired. He did play very well at the end of the year but when he was upset with his contract at first he was bad for the team. If he continues to play like he did at the end of the season he would be an asset but i don’t think you can count on that.

      so, answer my questions please..

    12. Comment by steponhens on November 23, 2008 1:24 PM

He can win defender of the year because the rest of the defenders did not play very well this year. Davino was the worst regular starter on the team. Blake Wagner was decent but should not be an MLS starter at this point in his career. Drew Moor had a subpar season for him, and was hindered by playing next to Davino. And Pitch did not play enough to warrant serious consideration.

I never said Richetti is not a good player, but he was night and day between the beginning of the season and the end of the season. I believe the difference was he thought he could earn a better contract through Hyndman. Since that option does not appear likely I believe the team would be starting in a hole if they are counting on “their best player” to play to the same level as he did toward the end of the season. He has shown before he will coast if he is not happy and that is a risk a team with a coach who expects a lot out of the center midfielders should not take.

For a coach to be so big on team building and every player being on the same page can they really count on Richetti being happy and being the leader they want him to be? I don’t think so if they do not raise his salary.

    13. Comment by justin on November 23, 2008 10:38 PM

I disagree with about his level since the beggining, I can remember games against Houston and NY, he played really good both of them.
But, I agree with you, if is not happy, you can not count on him. So, give him a new contract or let him go. Right?

    14. Comment by Steponhens on November 24, 2008 9:08 AM

I would like for dallas to keep him if they give him a new contract. He was one of their best players at the end of the season and could be a key piece to making the playoffs next year. I say get rid of Saragosa and pay Richetti more, but it doesn’t seem as though that will happen.

from the unprotected list, was there an outside back we could be interested in (brandon prideau, CHI; wade barrett, craig weibel, HOU)? from the rumors that LAG were wanting to trade w/ seattle for drafted players…maybe we can do a little 3-way. if LAG wants pablo, maybe seattle can draft someone for us on the list and ship him to LA for cash. LA then ships that player to us for pablo. kinda like killing 2 birds w/ one stone…that is if FCD was willing to trade away pablo.
