Rumbles

September 9th, 2008 . 8:39 am . By: Buzz Carrick

Sometimes you hear something and don’t know what it is.

This is one of those weekends.

From a couple different places I heard rumblings of something “big” coming with FC Dallas. Word at the water cooler has Hunts meeting all weekend with Hitch and Schellas in preparation for something “major.”

Unfortunately I have no idea what it is.  I made some calls, talked to some people… and I’m getting nothing.  Believe me, I tired.

So I figured I Would at least pass along the vibe I’m getting that something in going down.

Let’s hope that this is going to be an announcement that FCD is using the allocation money they have acquired to structure a new contract for KCJ that will pay him DP like money in deal like Columbus has with Schelotto

Moving back to the re-vamped Cotton Bowl?

    I can wish.

FCD is pleased to announce the signing of Diego Maradona to help bolster the left side of the midfield.

Thierry Henry in Hoops!!!!! or better yet….Cesc Fabregas!

  6. Comment by twotone on September 9, 2008 9:53 am

Cesc might cure that #10 jinx that was written about earelier

It may very well be that nothing is going down, or at least that nothing happens.

But there is certainly a high level of “Chatter” out there saying something is happening.

I don’t think a redone Cooper deal would qualify as major (warranted certainly, but it doesn’t change the direction of the organization).
Might be a big sponsorship deal, maybe even in tandem with a big signing. But, who is a free agent right now that would qualify as a truly big signing? Roster deadline is next Monday, we should know soon.

Best of luck cracking this one, Buzz.

Hitch saved a lot on his car insurance thanks to that Gecko character.

FCD getting sold. Liverpool America or Barcelona USA

I was thinking the same thing Steve, sponsorship deal.

“Moving back to the re-vamped Cotton Bowl?”

I wish too. I’ll watch mediocre soccer if I only have to drive 1/2 an hour to do it.

New iPod Nanos, updated iPod Touch and iTunes 8. I thought everyone knew that already!

    Oh, wait…wrong blog.

Sponsorship would be big…could also be a new partnership with River Plate.

  14. Comment by Ed on September 9, 2008 12:12 pm

I disagree Steve. Resigning Cooper would be HUGE for FCD at this point. Right now FCD is starting to attempt to sell season tickets for next season and fans have to be saying, “why?” FCD is struggling and their best player, young and fan friendly, is not likely to be here. Why buy tickets? Knowing KCJ is returning would provide some hope for next season.

I do agree a sponsorship deal would be big news too, but the timing does not seem right for a sponsor to sign up.

  15. Comment by Steve on September 9, 2008 12:40 pm

Ed, maybe I should clarify. Certainly extending Cooper would be fantastic, but Buzz said “Word at the water cooler has Hunts meeting all weekend with Hitch and Schellas in preparation for something “major.””
For what sports team would extending the contract of an existing player elicit that level of excitement? If throw in with their major announcement that they’ve re-upped KC, I’ll be very happy, I just don’t think that could be it on its own merits.

Schellas is the coach. He, allegedly, doesn’t even get involved in contract negotiations. Why would he be involved in meetings, this or any other weekend, that were about sponsorships?

  18. Comment by Nathan on September 9, 2008 1:53 pm

Selling off the Franchise? Seriously.. they have both crap attendance and a disenchanted fan base.. but I’m sure they still love the coach.. so maybe they’ll just move it somewhere else. PHP will make plenty of money without FCD.

  22. Comment by Bobby on September 9, 2008 2:49 pm

Anon knows the truth. MLS and Rosenborg very close to a transfer deal for next season for Cooper, word out of Scandinavia has it. Deal apparently would pay Cooper 10 times what he earns now. Team currently in Uefa Cup, too.
Good luck, Coops. You deserve it.

  23. Comment by ED on September 9, 2008 3:08 pm

Sorry Steve, but if FCD could resign KCJ it would be very much “MAJOR”.

Q “For what sports team would extending the contract of an existing player elicit that level of excitement?”

    A. FC Dallas

    FCD extends Drew, not Cooper:

  25. Comment by SteveToro on September 9, 2008 3:30 pm

SI’s reporting that FCD extends Drew, not Cooper

  26. Comment by SteveToro on September 9, 2008 3:31 pm

From the article: “Add FC Dallas defender Drew Moor to the list of young players signed recently by MLS to new contracts — but not Kenny Cooper.

Dallas is expected to make the official announcement this week, according to a team source. Moor, 24, has played for Dallas since being drafted out of Indiana in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft after helping the Hoosiers win back-to-back NCAA Division I titles.”

  27. Comment by nicky on September 9, 2008 4:33 pm

Signing Drew is nice and all but hardly big news. He’s a solid journeyman-type player who occasionally gets a non-important Nats game.

  28. Comment by Mike on September 9, 2008 7:04 pm

My bet is it’s not player related….Hitch is going to be canned

  29. Comment by Matt on September 9, 2008 7:53 pm

The Hunts are selling to a Dubai group that will happily pour hundreds of millions into the club?

  30. Comment by TheGreatTrollKing on September 9, 2008 7:59 pm

Mike, I think you’re right - Hitch will get canned. What you didn’t catch is that Guarda will replace him.

Or they could be promoting “Kick SH in the Balls” Night at PHP.

Pony, there was always a chance it was going to be nothing. But there was so much buzz in the air (snort, giggle) that I had to at least say something.
