New Job for Morrow, Resigns from FC Dallas

Steve Morrow (Jason Gulledge, 3rd Degree)

Steve Morrow has a new job and has resigned from FC Dallas.  Morrow has taken a position with Arsenal and will soon be announced as their new Global Technical Manager.

Although I’m not sure exactly what that position will do, it sounds like he’s going to be in charge of scouting and talent development from outside of England.

While he got the short end of the stick here in Dallas with the poorly timed and premature firing removal from duties, it’s likely Morrow will be better off in the long run back home with a tremendous club like Arsenal.

Edit: Morrow was never “fired,” he was “removed from coaching duties.” That’s typical HSG operating procedure and often happens when coaches have muti-year deals. Steve Sampson for example was “removed from coaching duties” in LA a few years ago and not “fired.” In Morrow’s case he would have remained under contract with FCD through the end of this season.

Edit 2: Arsenal has made the announcement, Although Morrow’s official title changed a bit. He’s officially the International Partnerships – Performance Supervisor.

He just now “resigned”?!? Did they give him a consulting position or something after they fired him?

Quills, see edit above to clarify.

Good for Steve. His style never fit with American players so perhaps this will be a much better situation for him. Leave Dallas in a very low level league for Arsenal sounds great for him.

He seemed to have decent eye for talent (when management wasn’t forcing moves on him), so this could be ideal.

Good for Steve. I wish him the best.

Buzz – Have you talked to him much since his departure?

I agree with Steve. His best skill was in identifying talent. He had good drafts and left the team well stocked for the long term.

Hopefully Morrow can backstab his way to the top of Arsenal, just like he did at FCD. Anyone who has spent anytime at all with the real Steve Morrow knows that he’s as two-faced as they come. Watch your backs Arsenal upper management, Morrow will blame you for every decision gone bad and take all of the credit for anything good that happens…just like he did at FCD.

Maybe SM will offer KC an Arsenal contract?

Lots of turnover in a year and a half…hopefully everyone on the team is renting, and not buying any furniture over at IKEA….

Wow. Sounds like Buzz has definitely taken a big swig of the Steve Morrow Kool-Aid.

I guess if Jorge Alvial can be a scout for Chelsea, Morrow can be one for Arsenal. Too bad he couldn’t have gotten FCD an Arsenal partnership like Colorado has. I guess that is Hitch’s fault too.

I guess how I feel about him ultimately rests on who was responsible for reneging on cantracts with players. If Morrow did it he deserved to be fired. If Hitchcock or someone above then Morrow got jobbed really good.

I had been under the impression that some of the contract issues, particularly with cooper and mina took place before Morrow was head coach, so I figured the problem was higher up.
