Rosenborg Returns

July 4th, 2008 . 8:35 am . By: Buzz Carrick

A contingency from Rosenborg is back in Dallas to watch Kenny Cooper play.

As mentioned by Phil Stephens, Stig Torbjornsen will be returning, but 3rd Degree has learned that Rosenborg’s head coach Erik Hamrén will apparently be joining him to take in Cooper’s game, as well as a unnamed Rosenborg director and agent Jan Schiefloe of ProPlayer Management LLC in California, who specializes in transfers from the United States to Scandinavian leagues.

Having had their $1 million US offer rejected by Major League Soccer such a large contingent indicates Rosenborg, who is actively looking for a striker or two, are considering upping their offer for Cooper. It remains to be seen if the Hunts and MLS will bite on a renewed offer, but it doesn’t seem much of a stretch to think they will do so if the offer reaches a level between $3 to $5 million.

Stay tuned as the story devlops.

hmm…big decision by HSG if they offer 3-5 mil. but what can you do…you have to take it. hopefully, you can buy a new fwd or 2 w/ that kind of money.

lee nguyen and/or bofo (i believe that’s what they call him) down in the mexican league.

HSG will put that money in their hip pocket. Thats the only thing they care about. Can’t see them spending red cent one on any new player(s)

I’d be happy for Kenny to see him move onwards and upwards.. but we have absolutely no depth up front right now… we simply have to acquire some good talent before giving up KC jr.. or we’re totally shafted.

    These aren’t the forwards you’re looking for…

If the Rosenborg money buys us a Bofo, then I’m all about sending KC to Europe. Bofo will bring us goals AND fans (hopefully).

Start getting ready to lose Cooper, because someone will probably name MLS’s price. I was thinking they should put a 6 million dollar tag on him, so hopefully the bidding goes that high.

As much as I don’t want him to leave, FCD could get a few good players plus build some nice infrastructure with that cash.

Yes 6 Mil would be a good price, but how many “good” players would that really get us when we are dealing with a salary cap. What infrastructure do we need? We have a big brand new EMPTY stadium! This joke is 12th out of 14 teams. I am still waiting for the “good “players that we were supposed to get from selling Ruiz and Gbandi this summer.

Look up FIFA article 17 for Status and Transfers of players.

Then Google “Webster Rule”. which shows players now being able to leave their clubs after 3 seasons, even with longer contracts.

From these, you should be able to deduct that Cooper can terminate his MLS contract after this season(his third) in exchange for paying MLS an amount equal to the last two years of salary.(slightly over $200.000)

So if that’s the case, maybe taking the offer from Rosenborg now would make sense….? FC Dallas can get a couple of good players for that money.
