No Toja Sale Says FCD

Juan Toja (Rags Gardner, RII)

Over the last month various news sites in Romanian have been reporting the interest of Steaua Bucharest in FC Dallas’ midfielder Juan Toja. The latest this morning says FC Dallas has agreed to a $500,000 sale for the player after Toja agreed to go. But FC Dallas has today denied the sale of the Colombian midfielder and head coach Schellas Hyndman says Toja isn’t going anywhere.

“As far as I’m concerned Toja is a FC Dallas player,” said Hyndman. “Unless of course the numbers are so crazy we can’t not do it. Juan Toja is a very valuable member of this team. He’s going to the All-Star game. All teams want to get better and he’s a good player so people want to sign him. We’ve had trade offers from several MLS teams for him and quite a few teams from other countries have made offers.”

From the FC Dallas end it seems clear at this point they plan to keep their influential midfielder who was officially added to the All-Star roster today. Having just paid $400,000 this last winter to acquire Toja from Sante Fe, it’s highly unlikely that $500,000 US would get FCD to part with him. Even if the reported 500,000 turned out to be Euros, making the offer $1,000,000 US, It’s doubt that would qualify as “crazy” money in FC Dallas eyes.

A FC Dallas spokesmen did confirm that an offer for Toja as been received from Steaua Bucharest. FCD also confirmed there are multiple offers in for Toja from various teams overseas and that the offer from Steaua was by no means the only one.

Edit: “Juan is a great player, and it’s a credit to the growth and development of MLS and FC Dallas that he and others are receiving interest from foreign clubs, “said FCD GM Micheal Hitchcock. “We have received interest for Juan, and similar to what we would do with an offer for any FC Dallas player, we’re reviewing the offer.”

Thank you, Buzz!!! I knew we could count on you. Although, the All Star thing is just weird… I wish that part weren’t true, either. Crazy days…

Can’t wait for the game — Go Hoops!!

I hope this is true. If Toja finds his all star form again, he will be a dominant foce in the mf alongside Dax

No news yet on who will be our European forward? our new defender? or our ne young midfielder?
I am pretty sure either Toja or Cooper will leave this team pretty soon. I tend to think its Toja just because we have more midfielders than forwards…

    The Plot Thickens!

“In other news, we can confirm that Juan Toja is one of the players that has attracted interest from overseas teams. No decision has been made.” - FC Dallas Blog.

This quote does not inspire confidence.

    Buzz,
If Toja (or anyone else) is sold by MLS, how exactly do the finances work? How much does FC Dallas get? MLS? Is there a set standard in a contract or CBA somewhere?

  9. Comment by Buzz Carrick on July 17, 2008 3:33 pm

Skeeter, yes. The team (FCD) get’s 2/3s of the fee to the league. MLS keeps 1/3… (everywhere else it’s 100% to team, this is a vestige of the single entity).

I would assume after the player get’s his share… which is usually 10%, give or take.

Skeeter, “No decision has been made” is PR guy talk for “we have an offer, they don’t tell me what’s gonna happen till it happens.

UGH, I hate this. BOTH OF MY TEAMS!

Lampard at Chelsea, Toja at FCD, LEAVE MY PLAYERS ALONE.

Personally, I still think there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Of course that’s the cynic in me talking, I suppose. I guess I’ve gotten used to hearing front office mumbo jumbo one day only to watch the player in question leave the next day. I guess time will tell, but I’m expecting the worst and hoping for the best at this point.

When Toja learns to use his right foot, then I’ll worry about him leaving.

Please stay Toja! You have been the one that turned me on to soccer and I would hate for you to go anywhere. No matter what has happened so far this year, you are still a star.

If we are really honest MLS is feeder league and guys will get bought from time to time. Toja, Cooper whoever because the league just won’t paid guys their world-wide value…because we are a feeder league and nothing more.

“FC Dallas midfielder Juan Toja confirmed on Thursday that European club Steaua Bucharest is interested in bringing him to the Romanian soccer league.

The Colombian international, who was added to the MLS All-Star team Thursday, said he learned on Wednesday that the clubs are negotiating. He would be cleared to transfer as soon as a deal is reached.

“Yes, there has been contact with an offer to FC Dallas”, said Toja. “I’m very interested because I can play the UEFA Cup and Champions (League), it’s an offer I have to examine.”’

I think its a matter of time till he goes to Europe. Well whatever happens I wish him the best but I hope Dallas get what he is worth because he is worth more than 500k.

SF, it always was. But the price has got to be right.

    “Feeder league and nothing more.”

Goodness gracious, son. What in the hell do you expect for a league that is less than two decades old and still doesn’t have the full attention of even fans of its sport behind it?

MLS is only as good as the AVERAGE American player is. As such, it will continue to get better but will not be “anything but a feeder league” for some time.

Question - would you rather be the J-League? Where you don’t even have that “feeder league” benefit of people looking to make it in Europe through your league?

If Toja is a great player, why he plays in MLS?He deserves to play at stiaua, which can not win without refrees helps.steaua is nothing..
