FCD Trades for Two International Spots
July 18th, 2008 . 11:41 am . By: Buzz CarrickFC Dallas has today traded for two international spots as their search is underway for two additional players from South American. The Red Stripes traded their natural 4th Round SuperDraft pick in 2009 to Kansas City in exchange for one spot, and then sent a natural 1st round Pick in the 2009 Supplemental Draft to Columbus for another international slot. These moves will open the way for Schellas Hyndman to add the two players he wishes to bring into the team. As we’ve already mentioned a few times this week, John Ellinger leaves this weekend for Argentina and Brazil to look at possible players. Today FCD specially mentioned Ellinger would be visiting River Plate and Atlético Paranaense, the former a obviously (hopefully?) soon to be partner and the latter already a partner with a history or sharing players. CAP has already loaned both Ricardinho and André Rocha to FCD. Hyndman has previously stated he wishes to add a striker and one other player via signing during the above window. A quick look at the Roster Dance reminds us that the Hyndman could easily make room on his senior roster by moving Michael Dello-Russo and Andrew Daniels back down to the two open developmental spot. That leaves only the salary cap as the major hurdle to adding two players. Our sources have told us FCD has room to add a Designated Player, which probably means at least $200k in room is available, although allocation money could be used to augment the cost of any additions. FC Dallas already has one trialist in came in the form of 30 year old Dutch player Victor Sikora a possible wide midfielder or forward. Another trialist, Assan Jatta (aka Bierhoff) a 24 year old Gambian striker on the books with Lierse S.K who was most recently on loan with K.F.C. Verbroedering Geel, was supposed to join the club today, but either missed a flight or just rescheduled to joint he team Tuesday cause they have Monday off, depending on who you ask. The above two trades also are a good indication that Marcelo Saragosa’s green card situation has not progressed. Edit: From the press release below we have learned that FCD will keep the International Slots for only this season. DALLAS ACQUIRES TWO INTERNATIONAL SLOTSFC Dallas today acquired two international player slots in separate trades with the Columbus Crew and Kansas City Wizards. Dallas trades its natural fourth round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft to Kansas City for an international slot through the end of the season. Additionally, FCD acquired another international player slot for the remainder of the season from Columbus in exchange for its natural first selection in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft. The international slots will each revert back to the original team for the 2009 season. Beginning in 2008, each team in MLS was allotted eight international players slots among its 28-man roster, with the exception of Toronto FC, who is allotted ten international players slots. Teams may also acquire additional slots in trades with other teams. FCD currently has its original eight spots filled with: Juan Toja (Colombia), Dominic Oduro (Ghana), Pablo Ricchetti (Argentina), Duilio Davino (Mexico), Adrian Serioux (Canada), and Andre Rocha, Marcelo Saragosa, and Ricardinho (Brazil). International slots may be used to sign players that are non-U.S. citizens or residents. Dallas now owns six picks in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft: - One first round selection (natural) - Three second round selections (natural; Los Angeles’ natural, acquired in Jan. 2008 in Carlos Ruiz trade; and Real Salt Lake’s natural, acquired in June 2007 in MLS Ruling) - Two third round selections (natural; and Chivas USA’s natural acquired in August 2007 in Ramon Nunez trade). - The team also owns its 2nd, 3rd, and 4th natural selections in the 09 Supplemental draft, as well as San Jose’s 3rd Round pick acquired in March 2008 in exchange for rights to Jamil Roberts. 21 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Okay, now we’re talking…
Holy Schnikeys! I never thought an Int. spot would be that cheap! Does they revert back to KC and Columbus at the end of this year or something?
Can’t wait to see what the do with this. According to your salaries page, they have less than $1.7 mill in total salaries (some of it Gen Adidas). With the Ruiz mystery allocation and the Gbandi allocation, that’s a lot of extra cap room, even more if they sell Toja.
Whew, at least we still have Saragosa.
[...] 3rd Degree is reporting that FC Dallas have completed a trade with Columbus Crew and Kansas City Wizards, seeing them acquire two international roster spots. FC Dallas sent their 2009 MLS SuperDraft 4th round pick to Kansas City for an international spot, and sent their 2009 first round Supplemental Draft pick to Columbus in exchange for another international spot. The trades will give new head coach Schellas Hyndman the necessary roster spots to acquire the two south american based players he is currently scouting. [...]
to J. Ellinger:
Please bring back Andres D’Allesandro. Doesn’t play for River Plate anymore but he’s still in Buenos Aires…
Toffee - you’re funny!
Why the “aka”??
Assan Jatta (aka Bierhoff)
Good. Ditch Saragosa ASAP and get some fresh international blood in here. Also, McCarty needs to get healthy. His career is starting to hurt with this too-long recovery time.
Dax’s “problem” is that he’s an American, and he doesn’t play for Houston.
mikemie..
Andres will sign with Internacional from Brazil, they will pay 7m for 50% of his rights
also know as Bierhoff
Toffee - We’re keeping Saragosa around to lure Kaka into coming to play with him here!!
Dax does not have any problem. He needs to take his time in recovery so he will not have any future problems. His career is not faultering at all he is only 21 and you obviously have never played a sport before or would understand this…
Clark, ignore the other Alex. He’s a member of the xenophobic Team Cooper, which is ironic given Cooper and Renshaw were foreigners who came to America to ply their trade. They blame every thing on FCD’s foreign players, though blaming Dax’s Oly snub on the team’s international players is wrong, unfair and potentially hurtful.
Dax is fine. He was unlucky to have an injury and a slower-than-expected recovery time. There will be many more national team caps in his future.
Buzz, please expand on “Edit: From the press release we have learned that FCD will keep the International Slot for only this season.”
Tks.
Never mind. FM FCD site: UPDATED (6 pm CT) - both international slots revert back to the original teams following the 2008 season.
Great info - keep up the great work.
Thorn, if you know Cooper Sr he never blames anyone. He is to smarter person to do this. I have met him in the Verizon club, he will talk about the game all you want. He never turns it personal in regard to players. I do know players do ask him what he thinks about the game. With him being a former coach i would think this to be normal. I do know he asked Dax to take his time to recover from the injury.
Buzz, your link to the roster dance in this article is broken
thanks mud, fixed.
Anyone else think FCD wishes they had Francis Doe or Sebastian LeToux right now to combine with KC up top???
