Dax McCarty Named Alternate for US Olympic Team
July 17th, 2008 . By: Buzz CarrickIn what has to be a disappointing development for Dax McCarty, he has been left off the US Olympic Roster. After his sensational play in the qualifying rounds it seemed a virtual certainty that McCarty would make the squad. The unfortunate timing of the sports hernia surgery and slow recovery was clearly to much to overcome in a short span. McCarty has been named an alternate to the squad, which means he could be called into the team is an injury occurs. I thought Hejduk was already going? Now he’s an alternate?
Hejduk would count as one of the three over-age players allowed onto the team (Parkhurst, McBride, Guzan). To put him on the squad, you’d need to remove one of those three.
It would have been nice to have Dax on the team, but I agree - I think the injury was the main reason he wasn’t selected.
well, i find it kind of goofy that Benny was given time to recuperate from his injury and he still made the squad, but Dax doesnt. it doesnt seem fair.
