Alvarez Traded To San Jose
July 28th, 2008 . By: Peter WelptonFC Dallas made another anticipated move today with a trade of Arturo Alvarez to San Jose in exchange for their first round pick in 2009 and allocation money. San Jose originally received the pick from Houston in exchange for Kei Kamara. Considering San Jose will likely end up in last place their pick will be 2nd in the pecking order as Seattle (an expansion team) will have the first pick. Alvarez returns to the club that drafted him. No details if the allocation money received in this trade washes out the amount given to Colorado for the Bruno trade - or if it is an unequal amount. Here’s the press release… FC DALLAS TRADES ARTURO ALVAREZFC Dallas today completed a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, acquiring allocation money and San Jose’s first round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, which was acquired from Houston, in exchange for forward/midfielder Arturo Alvarez. San Jose had obtained Houston’s natural first round pick in the 2009 draft in exchange for forward Kei Kamara on June 24. The 22-year old Alvarez has scored three goals and added three assists in 16 games this year. Dallas acquired Alvarez on Jan. 14, 2005 from San Jose along with Richard Mulrooney and two draft picks in exchange for Brad Davis, a draft pick, and allocation money. In three and a half seasons with Dallas, Alvarez appeared in 86 regular season games, scoring 11 goals and adding 11 assists. FCD now owns two first round picks (FCD natural, and Houston’s natural), two second round picks (LA’s and RSL’s natural), and one third round selection (Chivas USA’s natural) in the 2009 SuperDraft. 13 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Arturo In my opinion never bought into becoming a great pro here in Dallas. I think he has world’s of talent and wish him well in SJ. Now then, SH you are starting to put your stamp on this team. Please Mr. Hitch, give the man what he needs…..
SJ is adding good players and may yet make the playoffs and will easily pass Dallas given they are adding talent and we are having a fire sale.
I believe its not their pick, its the Houston 1st round thou SJ so not that good of a pick but still AA was not happy here, his salary was high and he will mostly likely try overseas again in the off-season.
Now I expect Dax to play left and Guarda and Avilla to fight for the CAM position. OR the sign of Sikora this week, looks likes more things will change this week, lets just wait and see
Well, if so…they sure missed on this one. Good riddance.
I thought San Jose already traded their first rounder for Ronnie Obrien? If it is San Jose’s natural first rounder than this is a very good trade, but if it ends up being towards the bottom of the first round hopefully FCD will use the saved money to bring in some quality.
Sorry to say that this pick from SJ that was dealt is actually Houston’s #1 pick (acquired for Kei Kamara). TFC retain SJ’s #1 pick (likely #2) in the deal for ROB as previously mentioned.
Should have been done after the red card ended our season in Houston last year. Best move Schellas has made. Surprised they got such value for him.
Bye…now show me Sikora and keep kcj. Add a striker and outside back, and we are back in the hunt.
it may not be the #2 overall, but i like having 2-1st rounders like we did last year. we could always package them to go up if needed or get a really good vet.
i personally like that fwd from wake forest that was much talked about last year. i believe his name was marcus johnson? either way, only good can come out of this since we already saw how much artie did for us.
so, in hindsight, we got bruno and a #1 for artie and 2nd + 3rd round picks. i like our chances
3nout, its Marcus Tracy. he was the 2nd best forward in college soccer last season, maybe 3rd, and the other 2 arent doing much. Nyarko was best and he cant get on the field in Chicago w/ all of their scoring troubles. he’s behind Barrett (traded to TFC), Rolfe (hurt), Frankowski, and Carr, and Blanco depending where he’s listed.
My opinion on the other is our friend from Harvard. his name escapes me, but he’s from Dallas also.
Andre Akpan is the guy from Harvard, but I dont think he is ready to make an impact in the MLS yet, lets wait and see.
Allocation money? Possibly to be used in a new offer to keep Cooper in hoops?
If only…
[...] punishment was to be traded to San Jose so we can actually have a draft pick next season. Which, as Peter Welpton points out, will likely be the #2 overall pick. We probably would have used that pick to secure the services [...]
