FCDers with USA Update

July 31st, 2008 . 8:21 am . By: Buzz Carrick

There are three games to tell you about.

Dax McCarty, wearing #5, played the second half of the US Olympic team’s 0-0 tie with the Ivory Coast in a warm up match for the Olympics.

Break Shea, wearing #12, started and played 90 minutes in the US U20’s opener at the Milk Cup, a 3-1 loss to Northern Ireland. On paper it looks like a strange game with two own goals, one by each team. Anthony Wallace, #14, started and played 90 minutes in the midfield. Josh Lambo, #1, did not play.

Shea and the US had a better performance in the second game, a 4-0 flattening of Wales led by Shea’s brace. Shea’s two goals came despite only playing 68 minutes as he netted in the 38th and 55th minutes. The other two Hoopsters contributed to he shutout as Wallace started and played 90 minutes, this time in defense, as did Lambo in net.

The US U20s play Belgium on Friday (6AM CT) in one of the consolation games to end the Milk Cup.

Wales is very proud of the progress its youth national teams are making, so this bodes well for Shea, though not necessarily as much for FCD.

I think FCD plans to use Shea in KCJ’s vacated spot once he moves on, whenever that happens.

Buzz, next time you’re out at training I think you should ask SH about Wally and where he sees him playing? It seems like he would he deserves a shot if SH wants to move Serioux to midfield or to right back.

FCD won’t have a chance to use Shea in Cooper’s vacated spot becuase he will be with Man U
