Just extending Buzz's answer, Garber has made it quite clear that the money for "soccer operations" is to be invested into the club, not pocketed by the owners.

FCD gets 2/3s, MLS 1/3. But only $500k can go to buy a new player. Rest goes to pay for "soccer operations."

does anybody know how much of that money FCD will receive? Are the players owned by the league?

I agree, we need to keep our home grown talent...

IMO Kenny deserves DP money. He is our best player and certainly one of the best strikers in the league. BUT unfortunately in MLS only foreign players are offered the big bucks. I know the team has offered him just over $400,000 per year to stay in his hometown, and I hope that's enough to keep him, but it would be a shame if he left the team without being offered a DP salary. Who are we waiting for? Ronaldinho?

Stay Kenny. We need a hero.

Tell me why I should root for FC Dallas if they let Cooper get away? The way you generate a fan base is 1a) winning & 1b) getting star players that fans can identify with and follow every year. Just as Cooper is developing a tremendous fan base, it's inconcievable to me that they'd let him go.

I thought their goal was to sell out the stadium on a regular basis. How do they do that by getting rid or allowing to leave every star they get. And Cooper has tremendous appeal.

We've sold out twice this year because of Beckam. If we Keep Cooper, and build around him, we might someday actually sell-out because of what FC Dallas puts on the field.

I would love to hold on to him for the remainder of the year. Without him I doubt we make playoffs. With him I think we have a shot at it.

Sweet Jesus, every other league in the world IS in the off-season. Tell me what's available in MLS that could replace Cooper? If they can't keep him, SELL HIM FOR BIG MONEY NOW (...to my second favorite club  )

I really liked the article. Does anyone think MLS would force the sale in order to keep from setting a dangerous precedent?
