Bruno Guarda Signs with MLS

July 21st, 2008 . 11:17 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

The Star-Telegram says Bruno Guarda has turned pro and has signed with MLS, passing up his senior year at SMU. There will be a weighted lottery to determine which MLS team he lands with.

Why should you care? Cause Schellas Hyndman is intimately familiar with the midfielder’s game and almost certainly was part of the reason Bruno has chosen to sign with MLS. Dallas will have a good chance to land the talented Brazilian due to their record over the last 30 days. But even if they don’t win the lottery I wouldn’t be remotely shocked to see Bruno land in Dallas ASAP via trade with whatever team wins him.

In fact I’ll be more shocked if he doesn’t end up in Dallas.

He’s from Brazil originally, right? Does he have a green card or would he cost an international slot?

If we got him, how would he mesh with the glut of mids we’ve got now?

I understand he’s a special player. (Stockpiling talent is always preferable to the alternative.) I’m just afraid we’ll be trotting out a 1-8-1 (formation, not record) at some point this season.

Would Guarda to FCD be enough to make a Toja sale imminent? I understand from Buzz’s comments that Avila would be the immediate candidate to replace Juan’s position, but perhaps Guarda would take that spot and eventually put Avila to the outside?

Another thought…would a Guarda move here keep up the “Shea as a forward” experiment?

Lots of dominoes could fall out of this move (is AA just about gone?), lest FCD trot out SteveToro’s proposed 1-8-1 formation!

Would Bruno be able to play the drums when he isn’t in the lineup is the most pressing question though! ;-)

He has been playing with the DFW Tornadoes lately and is their captain. Wold be an interesting signing for sure. Hopefully FCd can get him and Schellas DOEs NOT play favorites and lets him grow into the pro game.

He would count as an international player even thou he is a GA and been here for over 5years. So I guess that the trade SH made last week was already thinking about this. I m pretty sure that if Dallas gets Guarda he wont see anymore of Toja especially if the offer of 1.5m is right. Then Guarda and Avilla would fight for that position, they both played together at Dallas Cup onder IMG academy with Guarda being their best player in the tournament and scoring in the finals..

Perhaps one of the reasons FCD traded for those international slots?

Technically he won’t be Ga, since that’s in theory for americans… so it remains to be seen if he would be protected like a Ga is… Ramon Nunez was for example.

But either way he should count a international slot.

 I have played against Bruno Guarda during conference finals twice, and he’s a very quality player. If he ended up going to Dallas, they will have a great addition to their attacking sector. his touch, speed, creativity and flair are very rare to find nowadays here in the US.

    Thanks, PJA
