In a league where teams routinely jump from worst to first (and first to worst) from one season to the next, two teams have managed to find a consistently high level of success. Houston and New England have achieved this by holding on to a set of core players, while adequately replacing the pieces that leave. Both sides have refused to use their Designated Player spots, instead opting for flexibility within the salary cap in order to fill any vacant pieces in the puzzle through the draft, trades, and the foreign market. Finally, however, Houston has not been able to fill a key off season departure, which will now result in a change in formation and change in position for key personnel.

The first thing Schellas Hyndman did in his regime was to move training up till 9 am. Which is funny since he was late today with some personal business and came trotting out to training at 9:45. Marco Ferruzzi ran training for the most part.

Former Duke and New England Revolution midfielder/forward Spencer Wadsworth has accepted an offer from FC Dallas to join their developmental roster. Wadsworth has been training with the team for about two weeks now and will officially join the team when his paperwork clears the league office. While this isn’t a revolutionary signing, I consider it a smart piece of business with low risk high reward based on Wadsworth potential and low cost.

While some have catapulted their teams to contention others have had a decidedly less positive impact, but all have increased the interest and intrigue for the fans that follow the league.
