Update: Rosenborg Placed Rejected Bid on Cooper

Cooper (Jason Gulledge, 3rd Degree)

We reported just over a week ago that an unknown team had a $1 million (us) offer turned down for FC Dallas striker Kenny Cooper. We have now learned through our sources that the club in question was Rosenborg BK. Rosenborg chief scout Stig Torbjornsen was one of several scouts in town the last few weeks to watch Cooper and Brek Shea and while we spotted Torbjornsen at the Dallas game against Chicago we were unable to confirm Rosenborg’s was the bidding team until this weekend.

A scout from Manchester United was in town the same week, but it is believed by most people familiar with the club that he was in town to watch Brek Shea, although Man U does keep tabs of all their ex-players until the age of 26 or so. There have been stories circulating around FCD that several Coca-Cola Championship teams are watching Cooper as well as a German team or two.

Stay tuned as this story develops.

[...] According 3rd degree Norwegian powerhouse Rosenborg was the club that we reported had a $1 Million dollar bid for FC Dallas’s Kenny Cooper, rejected by MLS. Apparently Roseborg had a scout at recent games taking a look at both Kenny Cooper and Brek Shea(who we also reported was targeted by Manchester United). Rosenborg took part in last years Champions League campaign, drawing with Chelsea in England, and beating Valencia twice in group stages. What do you think? Would Norway be a good move for Cooper/Shea?  [...]

Cooper needs to get the f out of here, he is under appreciated, under paid and plays second fiddle to the saturday night concert schedule so beloved of HSG.

but do you really have to say it out loud?

Rosenborg would be a terrific move for Cooper. They are in need for a striker since Yssouf Kone just left Rosenborg for Cluj. And it would also attract more of the big clubs in europe, since Rosenborg already has players as Marek Sapara and Per Ciljan Skjelbred.

He looks like a big lad?

RBK has had success with big guys before.

Sigurd Rushfeldt 66 games, 67 goals.
John Carew 18 games, 18 goals.
Frode Johnsen 145 games, 80 goals.
Steffen Iversen 50 games, 18 goals(first time, as 17-20 years old)
Steffen Iversen 44 games, 30 goals(31 year old)

Norwegian “rosenborg’er” here. Wondering what role Cooper has in the club, is it important, and how about his skills. Is he good enough for european football? in this case, Rosenborg?

  7. Comment by Martin S on June 30, 2008 3:44 AM

bit more about the club rosenborg. Have won their league 13 times in a row from 1991 to 2004. Only one other club in the world have managed that. Founded in 1917 Won also in 06′. Have beaten several of the worlds best clubs: Blackburn (the year Blckbrn won PL), Valencia, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Fenerbache, Besiktas, PSV or Ajax (I don’t remember witch one. got a draw against Chelsea, ranked as the 3rd best club in the world. not gonna write the rest. have also won the norwegian cup 9 times

  8. Comment by Martin S on June 30, 2008 3:58 AM

f*ck, I always manage to miss something. Have participated in Champions League 11 times. Only Real Madrid and Barcelona have been there more. in total they have won their league 20 times.

Can somebody tell us how Cooper have played this season? we are curious about his shape here in Norway. – Rosenborg fan.

Time to leave home for Copoper and Moor and starting getting paid. Goodson is doing great in Norway and may also be on the move to a bigger club very soon.

  11. Comment by Thom As on June 30, 2008 7:48 AM

As a big Rosenborg fan I really hope we can get a deal. Cooper looks like a promising player, and the goalscorer we need just now. I think American players will be more and more popular i Europe, because of the price. In Norway African players have been dominating the import stats, but cultural and language makes many problems. Therefore Americans will be more atractive.

I think RBK will pay what MLS wants for Cooper:)

I don’t know much about them, other than the fact that they played my beloved Chelsea last year in the Champions League group stages, but I’m glad the offer was turned down. For our sake. They’d be lucky to have him :)

  13. Comment by mitch on June 30, 2008 10:46 AM

hmm…i agree he needs to get paid as well, he’s worth it, for carrying the team…him sticking around for another season or two would be nice, as long as he gets a raise…seeing the player salaries this morning, some re-working looks in order, in my opinion…more for some, definitely less for others…not going to name names, though…

  14. Comment by Pony2 on June 30, 2008 1:45 PM

Who would you compare coop to in the mls? He has 1 us cap, played reserves in Eu, What are they making? He’s not Ching, Donovan, etc…

  15. Comment by Martin S on June 30, 2008 2:54 PM

Dude, the salaries in FC Dallas and MLS are low as ****. A raise wouldn’t be a problem…

I follow the norwegian tippeligaen, and I tell u ozzie, Goodson ain’t doin’ that great a job…

  16. Comment by Mr. Rosenborg on June 30, 2008 3:39 PM

hi! Another norwegian here :) …RBK is in desperately need of hard working forwards, so push the pricetag to the limit :) :)..RBK are loaded with money :) :)…good luck in MLS….

  17. Comment by RBK on June 30, 2008 3:43 PM

why is it MLS and not the clubs who diside how much a player is worth?

  18. Comment by JC on June 30, 2008 3:58 PM

    @ Martin S

goodson not playing well? i thought he was already a starter?

Cooper would be a great signing for a team like Rosenborg, but they had better step up their offer. In today’s market he’s worth $6-8 million, easy. Of course, the dollar is crap, so draw your own conclusions.

  19. Comment by ozzie on June 30, 2008 4:04 PM

    Martin S

Obviously you don’t follow the Tippeligean very close because Goodson plays in the Adecco for IK Start. He’s the best defender on the best defensive team with 8 goals conceded in 11 games. He is rated the #3 player in the entire league. Start is a lock for promotion and he’s the only big signing they made. Don’t try bluffing again because you will get called on it again and look silly.

  20. Comment by Martin S on June 30, 2008 4:38 PM

JC, beeing a starter on an average norwegian team doesn’t say alot, but on Rosenborg and a few other it does.

Rosenborg got a nice piggybank and the first offer was just a dudd(?). A fake offer to see how high Dallas FC value Kenny Cooper. This is a known bid strategy among european clubs

Everyone is worried aboyt kenny Cooper beeing too simialr with Rosenborg Steffen Iversen, and doesn’t see how he can bring out iversen’s potential as Konè did. But seeing some vids of him and here some of him, I’m sure he’d bee a good signing

  21. Comment by JC on June 30, 2008 8:37 PM

    @ Martin S

I think we all know it’s a dummy bid. It’s just an incredibly insulting dummy bid.

  22. Comment by seventhrowscreamer on July 1, 2008 1:06 AM

Another Norwegian here but I’m a Dallas supporter. Cooper is vastly underpaid and our national team coach harbors a grudge against Kenny’s playing style so he won’t play him. Look up Kenny Cooper on youtube and you’ll see the quality that could help Rosenborg back to the Champion’s League. The exposure to Europe and the access Rosenborg has in UEFA could eventually lure Kenny to Norway but he won’t stay long. Lykke til in your search but uff da, don’t take him now. I was introduced to Stig and could not remember any of the language I learned from my family. I was embarrassed.

  23. Comment by Martin S on July 1, 2008 4:20 AM

JC… Start were in the tippeliga in 2007, stupid f**k.

beeing in the first 11 there doesn’t say alot, and beeing ranked 3rd best player of adeccoligaen doesn’t say alot either, so go get some f**king knowledge

  24. Comment by Martin S on July 1, 2008 12:22 PM

seventhrowscreamer, are youan americn with norwegian parent or have you lived in Norway before?

  25. Comment by TVP on July 2, 2008 3:55 AM

    Martin S:

Why are insulting people and trying to be a smartass?
Rosenborg ain’t doing to good their self lately, so before you know it we could almost be in the same shit as Start is in..

Cooper looks interesting btw, but i don’t think Rosenborg will go as high as 6-8 million dollars…

    Go Rosenborg tonight :D :D

  26. Comment by JC on July 2, 2008 9:35 AM

    Martin S

So you’re saying being a starter on a team in Norway doesn’t say much about the quality of the player? Couldn’t agree more.

  27. Comment by Martin S on July 3, 2008 4:05 PM

TVP. You must have followed the club over time to see why the club isn’t doing to well. 5 different coaches in 5 years. Changing in the administrative structure, and different systems of playing all have badly affected the Club. But with our new Coach, Erik Hamrèn, Rosenborg is the team in our league picking up most points on the latest 5 matches. They are on 3rd place, too low for anyone who knows anything about Rosenborg, but in time, it’ll get better…

I say a starter on a team in Norway doesn’t say much, but if you are a starter on a team like Stabæk (vell they don’t got too many right now), Rosenborg, Vålerenga (witch suck btw, only the players that even makes them a team to mention) and maybe Brann. Then you’re good enough…

No, you’re right. Rosenborg aren’t doing to good. But I haven’t said that either. Right now they are on 3rd, but that’s too low. But the place in the league really don’t tell the whole Story.

Everyone in Norway knows that they can only dream of the players in Rosenborg. Induvidually they are among the best in Norway ( I am objective here), but put togheter they don’t play well enough. Recently that have changed. Rosenborg have over 12 players in different national teams. So beeig a player on Rosenborg do say something.

And btw JC. The only plyer most europeans have heard about in MLS is Beckham, so don’t get wisey.

I have written a bit too much right now, haha, but atleast I have gotten a favourite team in the US.

    Go FC Dallas;)
