FC Dallas Player Salaries 2008

June 29th, 2008 . 6:32 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

I was looking around for the MLS Salaries, thinking I would just look at last year’s numbers as I didn’t think the numbers for 2008 had been leaked yet… when low and behold I come across this page on the MLS Players Union site that lists all the MLS Salaries through June 5th for 2008.  So here’s the FC Dallas list.

Notable is Abdus Ibrahim who has been traded to Toronto, Arturo Alvarez’s raise, and Juan Toja’s bump after having his contract purchased.  Ray Burse on with a senior developmental number as reported, Portland was paying him as well so he was moved down.  One would think he will go back up if he is in Dallas only for now.  Andrew Daniels and Michael Dello-Russo both moved up into open senior roster spots.  Only one junior developmental player, Chase Wileman.  Missing is recent signing Spencer Wadsworth, but he’s almost certainly on either junior or senior developmental.

Dulio, Arturo and Sala make about 700K combined. Burse, Dom and Pitch make about 80K combined. Anyone think the first three are playing 10X better than the lower three. What a waste.

HSG has there collective asses up their collective heads. the fact that 9 players make more than Cooper is a total joke. For gods sake pay him what he’s worth or let him go.

The secondary Alex is right, two national team players both under $100 is pathetic, especially since they are two players that we could never do without. Hopefully things change in the near future so that MLS can at least look competitive with other leagues in third-world countries.

I must have forgotten how grossly underpaid Coop is. For what he does for the club, it’s just plain wrong.

Coop knew what he was doing when he signed the contract. Hope some of the GA players develop over the next few yrs. Lambo is the goalie for the future, Shea, Wallace, Avila, Dax will be major contributors hopefully.

It’s easy to see why there are so many unhappy players on FCD.

  7. Comment by CM on June 30, 2008 8:14 AM

WOW, there is some major disparity there!! There are definitely some people not earning what they’re making, that’s for sure.

I thought Dax had moved off the developmental roster, but I’m glad to see he’s making a little more at least.

I think all MLS teams have this scenario.. with players that make you wow at how high they are paid and then much better players you say wow for how little they are paid.

(1)Can anyone estimate what Coop would make at Rosenborg BK if he were to be there this Summer?

(2)And what is the liklihood FCD could make a commitment to future and to Coop and pay him 250k and have him on the team a few more years?

(3)When did AA sign that deal, and who was smoking what when the came up with that offer? Just think how much better the situation would be if Coop and AA’s contracts were reversed at the moment

we have around $200k under the salary cap we should be able to bring insome one of good caliber to fit the team or even a DP and get rid of a couple of players who would make up the other two hundre needed.

It’s possible that coop may get
    $800000-$1000000 a year.

  11. Comment by FCDALLAS96 on June 30, 2008 10:33 AM

Cooper would make at the very least $1million a year at Rosenborg.

  12. Comment by ozzie on June 30, 2008 11:25 AM

    gigg

!, Cooper would make around 400K in Norway, that’s what Noonan makes and Goodson’s is somewhere in that area as well.

    3. AA signed this off-season. Cooper needs to make the Davino money to feel more comfortable.

saragosa is way overpaid to me. very average. dax is way better and that’s only one example. mls is weird that way, very average players get paid real good, only ’cause they’ve been kicking around the league for some time. i don’t get it.

  14. Comment by marcus on June 30, 2008 12:10 PM

Well, Rosenborg has a way bigger budget than many other norwegian clubs, so u can’t compare him to those players i guess.

  15. Comment by Charles on June 30, 2008 1:08 PM

pay Oduro and Burse a liveable wage! Just becase FCD doubled his pay from $17k last year to $33k doesnt mean its right. He should be at ateast what Bobby Rhine makes. Can we just make Bobby an assistant coach already?!?

no play in norway makes a million US $ per season….do some homework before you post.

News flash: Davino is overpaid. Man, Cooper entered into a bad deal.

  18. Comment by Pony2 on June 30, 2008 1:43 PM

how many yrs left on coop contract?

  19. Comment by phil on June 30, 2008 2:27 PM

AA is overpaid and Cooper is underpaid? Now lets think…
Whenever AA signed his new deal he was playing better and in a higher level, last year cooper had an injury and didnt have a “good” year so why would FC offer him a new deal in the off season? This is business and he wasnt forced to sign his contract, and if he had a better deal at the time he signed that contract he wouldnt had signed period. Now he works hard and he will get paid better next year, thats how it works.

Dax is a GA by the time he signed his GA deal thats how much everyone of them got paid there is nothing DALLAS can do untill his GA contract is over(usually 3yrs), you can see that Eric, Brek and Lambo all have the same contract since they signed on the same year and eric wasnt a 1st rounder. Its not Dallas who offered those contracts but GA prior to the draft. Like this years GA are expected to make $85k for a period of 3yrs and they cant leave MLS for those 3yrs. Contract its a contract! TOO tough.

  20. Comment by marcus on July 1, 2008 5:09 AM

Oh there are players in norway that make over $1.million US, believe me.

  21. Comment by Toffee on July 1, 2008 9:13 AM

Phil, no how it works is that Cooper entered into a bad deal based on his reliance on an undocumented promise. Some call it stupid, some call it dishonest, others call it entering into a bad deal coupled with some bad advice. It had nothing to do with him getting hurt later. You’re correct that FCD had no obligation to pay him more than he agreed to. Still a bad deal from his standpoint. And he had other places to sign for more. Again, bad decision on his part, but that does not mean there were not other opportunities. Right, wrong or otherwise Cooper made it clear he wanted to play in Dallas and get exposure to NT through MLS.

Alvarez cashed in on stupidity of a knee-jerking FO. Now he plays sporadic minutes and other teams are not interested. Can’t blame Alvarez one bit…good for him.

    You are correct about Dax.

None of this changes the fact that Davino laughs his way to the bank each payday.

Or the fact that this team cannot generate consistent offense.

Maybe Wadsworth can fix things at 13K a year.

  22. Comment by FC OzzFest on July 1, 2008 4:27 PM

Can you put a third column on here – what the FO “promised”…? LOL!

  23. Comment by 2-Cent on July 2, 2008 1:10 PM

How about a listing of what the FO staff makes? Or at least what Hitch and Hyndman make (or your best guess)?

  24. Comment by Nathan on July 2, 2008 1:49 PM

Do these guys get any bumps or bonuses associated with TV apperances/sponsorship deals etc… or are they the property of MLS? e.g. Davino get anything for his apperance on the Dick’s commerical or Cooper for his apperance in the Gliden paint?

  25. Comment by the other alex on July 2, 2008 3:33 PM

Cooper will bide his time if MLS/FCD won’t sell him and he’ll play out his option and the league/HSG will get f’d. He’ll keep doing what he’s doing (score goals) and the clock will keep on ticking. It’s been 5 years since he signed for Man Utd and time really does fly. He’ll be a free agent soon enough and then he can (and will) tell MLS/FCD/HSG/Hitch to go F themselves.
