Poll – How many games do you plan to attend next week?

June 26th, 2008 . 8:21 am . By: Chamo Jones

In my opinion the people responsible for the scheduling of FC Dallas matches at Pizza Hut Park are partly responsible for the low attendances this season. The schedule seems to have long stretches of away games (1 home game in June) followed by 2 or 3 home games in a week like we had in May. The schedule in August also is set up like June’s. Getting the big groups (which are FCD’s bread and butter attendance padders) to show up to more than one consecutive game isn’t feasible, and even the established fan base is forced to make choices when the home schedule is so compressed.

So, now the FC Dallas fan is staring at a stretch of 3 games in 6 days:

1. Sunday night at 8 pm – Exhibition vs. Chivas (Mex); TV coverage on Telefutura
2. Tuesday night at 7:30 pm – US Open Cup match vs. Miami FC Blues (USL); No TV
3. Friday night at 6 pm – MLS match vs. Kansas City Wizards (MLS); TV coverage on HDNet

I am as die hard a fan as they come. Since 1996 I can count on one hand the number of home matches that I have missed (and that includes the Southlake year). But even for me, this schedule is too concentrated and is forcing me to pick and choose which matches I plan to attend. I’m certain I’m not the only one feeling this way. I decided to skip attending on the exhibition game vs. Chivas because it is a meaningless exhibition against a club that we see all the time, and to boot it will be on TV.

We are all family here. Please, share your thoughts. Thanks!

1. I plan to attend:

. All three matches
. Two of the three matches. Which ones?
. One of the three matches. Which one?
. None

2. What is the reasoning behind your plans?

I’ll be at the meaningless exhibition against the Goats and the Open Cup match. FCDisney twice in one week is enough for me though. Keep up the drumming.

I am going with 0. The Sunday night would be the easiest to make schedule wise, but to be honest, I have no interest in watching a mid season exhibition. I would go to the Friday night game if it was later, but 6 is just to hard to make. So I guess I agree, the schedule makers are partially to blame for my lack of attendance, as is my career scheduler.

Not to mention with 3 games in such a short stretch, what kind of lineups are we going to see for these games?

I’ll be going to the two that count for something.

All. Now I am driving to Houstank.

Scheduling a meaningless exhibition inbetween two important competitive matches, thereby putting undue stress on the players, is yet another example of how this organization doesn’t care about the soccer, they only care about the revenue generation.

USOC game. Real life gets in the way.

I’m going to all of them.

I get to go to Sunday’s match – the wife and son will get to go to that one as well as Tuesday’s match. We’ll all be at Friday’s match unless we head out of town for the weekend.

The people that schedule these games must be the same ones that think it’s okay to run about 45 different leagues on the fields outside the stadium that has forced their shutdown.

I’m going to July 4. I had that one planned before the others existed. I’ll try to make the Open Cup match. Chivas is only mildly interesting. I’d go if it were some other time, but I can’t get to that many in short order.

Also, if we beat Miami, the next Open Cup game is the Tuesday after July 4. Uugh.

Real life gets in the way off all . . . so none. I would be at at least 2, if I had a choice. I’d skip the Chivas game.

Definitely the USOC and the Friday KC game. I’m waffling on Big Chivas. It’s 130 miles round trip for me- damn that’s a lot of gas, I have to work the next morning, and I’m still being pissy about the Morrow firing and the general incompetence of the front office. It’s a meaningless friendly at a time when the team is foundering. why? Oh yeah- Hitch needs to make money.

My tickets will be used on all three matches but I may not physically attend them all. I was figuring…

My wife and son attend the Chivas, My son and I attend the open cup, and we all attend the 4th.

Still not sure on that gameplan though.

maybe all three. open cup and kc for sure.

  14. Comment by sotg on June 26, 2008 8:38 PM

We’ll be at all three unless select Try out madness interferes on July 1.
Why? We paid for 4 season tickets and the bonus games make it feel a little more worth the money.

Chamo, well put. Texgator, cannot disagree at all.

    1. All three matches.
    2. Because like Chamo, I’ve attended all but four total since year one. Not going to stop now, though this year has really tried my patience…I haven’t been this frustrated w/ownership/front office since the infamous Southlake Debacle.

I’m skipping the meaningless exhibition game . I’ll be there for USOC & KC for sure.
