Hyndman Confirms Interest in FCD Job

June 5th, 2008 . 7:44 am . By: Buzz Carrick

In an interview with Phil Stephens that confirms our story of last week, Schellas Hyndman admits his interest in the FCD job and that he met with FCD General Manager Hitchcock, HSG President John Wagner, and Dan and Clark Hunt on Monday.  Hyndman also confirmed that SMU had given permission to talk Hyndman.  After turning down the Hunts on three previous occasions, the 4th time now appears to be the charm.  “Nothing has been offered,” Hyndman told Stephens, “we just had conversations, but I am interested in the job.”

It is that expression of Hyndman’s interest this time that is different and noteworthy.  As has been said many times in this space and others, it’s Hyndman’s job if he wants it.  The Hunts apparent willingness to interview Hyndman right before he goes on vacation tells us a great deal.  One can’t help but think the interview process is all but a formality at this point.  This is just the next step in the process of the Hunts move to hire Hyndman.  Stephens outlines Hyndman’s various reasons to stay and the reasons he states for being willing to leave the Hilltop, including a reference to some problems between the soccer coach and new SMU athletic director Steve Orsini.

Give Stephens a read as there is a bunch of good info and background in the article.  But I now wouldn’t expect a FCD hire until after Hyndman gets back from Europe.

Stay tuned as the story develops.

So, it still looks like he’ll also be TD?
When is he scheduled to return from Europe?

Can’t imagine Hitch will keep his job past the end of the season now.

Wow. Can’t believe he’s still going to Europe if he’s serious about the long-term success of his new team. Maybe he’s waiting for things to bottom out before stepping in?

“Maybe he’s waiting for things to bottom out before stepping in?”

Maybe he is waiting to be offered the job before changing his plans.

I am having a real hard time staying focused and interested in this team this season, and this isn’t helping. Any chance that he is just being considered for the TD position only? Or maybe interim coach/TD and then he will hire the next coach?
