Wynalda on the List?

May 29th, 2008 . 7:02 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

So the mouth that is Eric Wynalda was in town today.  We don’t know whether he was interviewing for the coaching job today or not, but he did meet with a local club later in the day and confirmed he at least spoke to FCD.  We’ll continue to try and confirm if he is candidate for the job.

In the mean time what do you think?  Would Wynalda make a good coach?

I would turn in my season tickets.

    (ok, not really…)

    hell effen no!

And you though his GM buddy in LA was bad…

That rant he had last year was hilarious. The team should get Jim Rome to fight him after his first home game, a double-header of sorts.

What would trouble me is that HSG must think the Lalas era in LA is great if they go with him. If he gets the job he should do his “yellow card/red card” during halftime. Make it a real spectacle.

I don’t see any problem interviewing Wynalda. Maybe he says something brilliant. Which, one must admit, would be very much against his track record.

Considering it sounds like they’re interviewing Pareja, one would be crazy to take Wynalda.

But if Eric keeps dropping wildly inappropriate gems like “Is that Tommy Hilfiger at a bar mitzvah?”, it would at least be an entertaining tenure, one must admit.

hmm. he could be an interesting hire for TD. he has a pretty good grasp on the players around the league, has an idea of how he wants players to play.

so this is what’s in hitch’s list.

how would he be as a technical director cause i woudn’t want him as a coach.

What names do you think are actually *in* Hitch’s address book? Do you think he can turn to his AA and say, “Get me Avram Grant/Hugo Sanchez/ten Cate on the phone?” He’s probably limited to those he’s run into (or the remaining technical staff from FCD have run into)…

It really doesnt matter who we get…. Same freaking results!!! Either a big loss on “mental” errors or another last minute tie…. Just to add in about Eric, He was one of the few Americans ever to play in Mexico

  12. Comment by texgator on May 30, 2008 5:55 AM

He would have the respect of all the American players. He would be able to relate to the players. He’s been highly critical of the league and how its managed, so that gives him credibility with all the players. He’d definetly install an attacking style of play. While I’m not sure Wynalda is the best possible candidate, we could certainly do worse. After 6 years of vanilla, useless play and negative tactics, it would be a refreshing change of pace.

the guy’s a bit of a j@ck a$$ for sure, but who’s to say he’d make a bad coach? Although didn’t we just get rid of a first time head coach? This smells a bit more like trying to create name/brand recognition to me. People who watch ESPN probably know who Eric Wynalda is – they probably haven’t got a clue who Oscar Pareja is. Hitch’s goal is to sell tickets, so by putting a known name/face (even one that’s a bit polarizing) on the bench generates more interest in the team.

We could have Toja wig night and Waldo verbal abuse night! Think of the marketing possibilities!!

[...] word on those three names but Buzz Carrick is wondering if Eric Wynalda is one of those candidates. So the mouth that is Eric Wynalda was in town today.  We don’t know [...]

    → León (loan)
Waldo played a whopping 5 games in Mexico on loan! that is impressive!

Mike Sorber was actually one of the first to actually play for a while in MFL for Pumas.

I think Wynalda is just what FCD needs. If he doesn’t get the coaching job, I hope the FO can find room for him in public relations. (Don’t discriminate against him; he may have a mild form of tourettes.)

  17. Comment by Rich on May 30, 2008 1:31 PM

    No! No! Danny, NO!

  18. Comment by Jason B on May 30, 2008 1:48 PM

I think he would be better as a TD than a coach, but either way I would be pretty happy.

I highly doubt FCD would hire him, though, because he would be pretty critical of the organization and how it is run. if they are looking to become more professional, I could see it. but otherwise, I think he would rock the boat too much.

i dont know. Wynalda was really one of the best forwards the US has had. He is competitive and cocky maybe it could work. I think its kinda interesting. I would want to see him as technical director.

If we are thinking about american soccer players, what about Tab Ramos.

  21. Comment by 3nOut on May 30, 2008 9:52 PM

if he is hired as a TD, he wouldn’t be able to criticize the FO b/c it would be his responsibility. if he has something bad to say, then i would assume he’s not doing his job.

I would like to see Wynalda involved with FC Dallas. He has international experience ,likes attacking style of play and has a critical eye. Gosh I would pay to see his post game comments because of the crazy things he says. Yeah he is cocky but sometimes that gets things done. Wynalda was one of the best American soccer players. He played in Germany when other americans werent. I actually like him and think it could really be great and hey it may sell more tickets. I for one have bought LA tickets against FC Dallas to get Cobi Jones’ autograph not beckham. There are alot of fans of Wynalda an American soccer because they were part of the team that helped changed US soccer.. why not?
