3rd Degree

3rd Nation

May 22nd, 2008 . 8:48 am . By: Buzz Carrick

So I have this little side project I’ve been thinking about…

I’ve had this idea kicking around for some time to talk about some more national issues than what you see on 3rd Degree.  While I don’t have the time nor resources to attempt a news site about the entire league or national soccer scene, I still from time to time have things to say or pieces of information I get about things other than FC Dallas.

Who knows how it will work or where it will go.  Just like the early days of 3rd Degree, it may take some time before this places evolves into something. It could end up quite different from what I think it will be now.  Right now it’s a bit thin and mainly just a concept and idea.

So I figured what the heck.  Let’s see what I can put together, and I came up with this…

Welcome to 3rdNation.net.

You should call it the 3rd World Report.

I love the DC jersey post you have there. I think a new site is not necessary, though. You could easily integrate such stuff here. Tag it “not-FCD” or put it in it’s own box or whatever. 3rd Degree already gets a lot of national readership, and it takes effort for someone to read the article, follow the link, then add the new bookmark (though I just did).

Interesting idea Chris. I hadn’t thought of it that way, 3rd Degree staying “pure” to FCD has sorta been a hallmark. Maybe I just need to rethink layout a little bit and see if the whole thing can be incorporated.

Agree with Chris. You only stand to strengthen your brand by including other content under the current label. If you spin it like “FC Dallas country, but we also talk about MLS and the Nats” you should be fine. Galarcep already does this and everyone knows he’s a NYRB guy.

Speaking of Ives, someone asked him why he’s not going after an exclusive with Morrow. I figure that if anyone gets that, it would be you. Have you been trying?

I think you guys have made a good point. I’m going to do some testing with the layout (you won’t see it here) and see if I can maybe include the 3rd Nation concept into 3rd Degree. It might take a week or two.

Any more thoughts and comments are welcome as this is still an idea and concept in the developing stages.

And yes, I’m working on on the Morrow thing.

Buzz, agreed w/ above comments…combine it here somehow and strengthen this great site. Perhaps by a link, maybe just by posting whatever you find interesting whenever you get to it. Readers can click on it or not.

I like this idea of coverage outside of FCD. Incorporating it into the existing 3rddegree site is a great idea!

Wherever it ends up, I’ll be reading it.
