Ray Burse Named to USL Team of the Week

Of note were the six save made against Portland’s rival Seattle. Burse also played well against Minnesota last week and Puerto Rico the week before. Burse has a 0.33 goals-against average, two shutouts and 11 total saves through the first three matches of the 2008 season. Good for him, and good for us eventually. Buzz, does the loan deal protect him for us in the US Open Cup…obviously he can only play for one team.

I must admit I don’t recall of hearing of MLS to USL loan deals. Is this a one-off case? Or is this the beginning of a trend that will see more and more players being signed as reserves on MLS rosters, but seeing starting playing time in USL rather than in reserves league?
Giggs, it’s fairly common. FCD has for example sent Alex Yi to Atlanta a couple years ago and in Wagenfuhr’s rookie year he went to Milwaukee I think it was. FCD is considering a Dello-Russo loan to Atlanta this season as well.
