3rd Degree

This Sucks

April 16th, 2008 . 9:43 am . By: Buzz Carrick

Some of you may know of the blog RSLFM.com, but if you don’t I will tell you that it is one of the great fan run blogs out there.  RSLFM.com isn’t run like a professional news site, like I attempt with 3rd Degree, but rather is a satirical, critical, biased, and biting look at all things connected to Real Salt Lake.  Run anonymously, frequently pessimistic and harsh on the team’s front office yes, but almost always funny, humorous, and entertaining.  Hated and loved, few people have ambivalent feelings about the site.

But how it’s run and what it does isn’t as important as that it was apparently suffering through some problems.  You can read the site, and others, if you want the details.

RSLFM.com is a breath of fresh air in the blog world.  I have long been a fan of their work and have loaned them a picture or two over the last few years.  Doing things differently than I do for another team in the league doesn’t stop me from loving the site and respecting their effort.  I happen to think the mistakes they have made in a journalistic sense are far outweighed by the entertainment they provide.

RSLFM.com, Please don’t let this situation get to you, don’t stop what you are doing.  Find a way to continue your fun and keep the joy you bring to the rest of us going.

Best of Luck from 3rd Degree.

RSLFM fabricated the entire hacker story.
She did it all for attention.

Google shut her site down for multiple ToS violations (which has been confirmed by multiple sources)
She is just looking for victim status.

I would recommend distancing yourself from this entire situation. She will try to drag you down with her.

So you are okay with her being a manipulative liar, not respecting the law, and having no regard for the hard work of other people? Sounds like a great role model and a real “breath of fresh air”.

Well in my experience none of your characterizations are accurate and fall into the category of what I call spin.

She’s an armature and what she’s doing is entertaining as hell. Should she have gotten permission to use images? Certainly. But at the same time she’s a fan who isn’t out to make any money as far as I know. She certainly isn’t a role model, but then I never claimed she was.

Sometimes I think things get taken far to seriously. A silly, over the top, fan, soccer bog is certainly one of those things.

If she is forced out of the game we will all be worse off.

RSLFM fabricated the entire hacker story. Is that entertaining? I say
    No!

Google shut her site down for multiple ToS violations (which has
    been confirmed by multiple sources)

Why would she need to fabricate a
story about being hacked? Was it to garner widespread sympathy for a
situation that she created for herself.

I was once a big fan of her site now after all of this self-made drama I am embarrassed for her and anyone else that still believes she is telling the truth.

    Why the big charade?

  8. Comment by John on April 16, 2008 3:34 PM

She is lying and manipulating people as we speak, including you. She has claimed to have been hacked. That has led to numerous people expressing sympathy for her being a victim, which she isn’t. She is where she is because of choices she made and the consequences of those choices. For her to play the victim card to gain symapthy is both lying and manipulative.

But I guess if anyone’s entertainment value is high enough, things like their character and moral fiber just don’t matter anymore.

She has not lied to me and has been nothing but courteous in her dealings with me.

Sorry you hate her. This is part of what I mean about not taking things so seriously.

Fabricating stories is part of what is so fun about it. Not all blogs are legit news sites, not all blogs are reporters, not all blogs are accurate, not all blogs are real news.

Sometimes there are things that are not news, we call these things entertainment.

“Now I know some of you may not trust your gut…yet. But with my help you will. The “truthiness” is, anyone can read the news to you. I promise to feel the news… at you.” – Stephen Colbert

Buzz, I’m confused and need an objective answer. What’s the history behind this site? I don’t understand why there’d be copyright issues and who is AYL?

  12. Comment by Buzz Carrick on April 16, 2008 5:47 PM

I don’t know the details. You can read the RSLFM.com site to see their statement the site was hacked. I can’t speak to that.

http://www.aylsoccer.com/ is a RSL site that appears to have some copyright conflict with RSLFM.com. They are certainly in their rights to protect their content. What that has to do with RSLFM being hacked or shutdown I don’t know.

But I think the point I am trying to make by talking about it is to say there are lots of kinds of blogs out there. Some of them are not professionals or news in nature.

I feel bad for RSLFM that their love of the game blog might come to an end for whatever reason. Maybe they need to do things differently, I don’t know.

I enjoy RSLFM, I hope they stick around. I wanted to offer my positive thoughts and say I enjoy the site.

Fabricating stories is fine as long as you tell people are fabricating stories. It’s different when you claim to be all about getting to the truth and then lie through your teeth. She’s a complete hypocrite.

Try reading this thread on Big Soccer for the full story that RSLFM won’t tell you.

Nothing about her story of being hacked is true in the slightest so she has lied to you and everyone else that is feeling sorry for her right now.

How dare someone post a non-truth on the internet. How will we ever trust wikipedia again? Maybe the US or Salt Lake should adopt China’s internet policy. I hear that %100 of the Chinese love it!
