FCD Reserves Take Care of Midwestern State 4-0

April 7th, 2008 . 10:35 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

The FC Dallas reserve team scrimmaged Midwestern State today at Pizza Hut Park on the adidas training field and defeated the Mustangs by a 4-0 score line.  Ricardinho scored twice to pace the Toros.  Abe Thompson and Eric Avila also had strong performances.  Trialist Shandon Emmanuel played 90 minutes at left center back for FCD.

FCD jumped out early with a terrific longer range goal by Anthony Wallace on a poorly cleared corner in the 4th minute.  At the fourteenth minute mark FCD took a 2-0 lead when Abe Thompson settled a cross and dropped the ball off to Abdus Ibrahim at the top of the box who scored a nice finish at the near post.

At the 30th minute mark Avila broke through the middle and beat several players on the dribble before leading Thompson on a quick break through the gap.  Thompson played a lateral ball to Ricardinho who easily notched his first of the match.  Ricardinho grabbed his second opportunistic goal when he intercepted a poorly played back pass in the 72nd minute as FCD looked to kill off the game.

Andrew Daniels gave up a late PK for a charge in the box and was sent off with a second yellow card.  The resulting PK was pushed wide right nicking the post as it went out of bounds.

MLS pool goalkeeper Mike Graczyk showed well for FCD making several nice saves, including two of note.  One a point blank save on a corner and the second a driving stop on a long range blast.  SMU alumni Mike Uremovich also saw some time at left wingback.  Likely of biggest interest to FCD fans is trailist Shandon Emmanuel.

Instant Scouting Report (Just add water): Emmanuel (#32) is a fast left sided St. Lucian defender who plays in the T&T league.  Today he was composed and looks a tidy player.  He has plenty of recovery speed and looks like he could get forward in a direct manner, but isn’t the kind to try and beat a player with nifty moves.  I was a bit curious to see him as a more central back three defender rather than as a wing back given what I had seen of him in T&T.  Unless he has a green card we don’t know about, he would need an international spot to make the team.  I’m intrigued enough to want to see him stick around this week.

FC Dallas Lineup

The Red Stripes ran a 3-5-2, MSU played in a 4-4-2 but the players didn’t have numbers so their identities are unknown.

    Buzz,

Any word on the status of Toure? He’s been gone a week based on your reports.
I hope the deal did not fall through as he looks like an excellent LT prospect.

    buzz,
if fcd decides to keep sheldon, how will that factor in moving adrian back down to the midfield?

to be honest, i’m all for it. send oduro packing or trade him for a draft pick. get something out of him.

He wouldn’t instantly replace Serioux, Morrow usually doesn’t work that way. Plus it doesn’t look like Morrow really fancies Serioux in the midfield or he would be there now. So I’m not really sure Emmanuel beating out Serioux would mean we would see Serioux displace someone in midfield.
