The Hitchhikers Guide to the FC Dallas Supporter Groups

March 27th, 2008 . 1:30 pm . By: Chamo Jones

When fans visit the legendary planet called Pizza Hut Park, they are confronted with many possible FC Dallas gameday experiences. They range from sitting in an air-conditioned club behind a glass sipping on a glass of wine to standing/jumping/chanting/singing/drumming with other like-minded fans for the duration of the game, and everything in between those two extremes.

With the new season upon us, it seemed like a good time to introduce the various supporter groups of the club to the new fans (and the old ones too). Which group is right for you? Don’t panic. Grab your towel, and we will help you figure this out.

The Infernowww.the-inferno.net:
The proverbial “rowdies in the cheap seats” group. They are located behind the goal in the south end in section 116. They have been supporting the club since its inception back in 1996.

La Raza LatinaNo web presence:
Another group of rowdies with a latin flavor to their cheering. On gamedays, you will find them in the South East corner of the stadium in section 119.

108 Militiawww.myspace.com/108militia:
The claim to fame of this group is their clever usage of signs at games. Their signage is witty, biting, sometimes offensive, and always funny. They pretty much are the only group of vocal fans on the West side stands. On gamedays, you will find them in section… you guessed it.. 108.

Los Toroswww.los-toros.com:
Late in the season last year a group of fans in the East stands decided that there wasn’t enough atmosphere in their section, so they decided to do something about it. On gamedays, you will find them in the lower rows of section 126.

Guardia Rojawww.myspace.com/guardiarojabatucada:
The group responsible for the samba beat heard through out the stadium. On gamedays, you will find them at the top of section 129.

All of the groups want you to join them. Check them out, and join the one that fits you best.

    Buzz,
Which group if any do you belong to?

Do you have a perch in the press box or have you been able to score yourself an on-field pass?

Sorry, I didn’t bother to read the by line. I pose the same questions to you Chamo?

Thanks for the link to the Los-Toros site. We’ll be down in front in 126, Rows 1-2, trying to get the Sideline East fans to get into the action every once in a while.

It’s not too late for people to join us — write me (stevetoro@los-toros.com) for info.

The “Uptown Ultras” represent faraway FCD fans from the 214 now relocated to the Upper Midwest Lake Erie Cuyahoga County area. We will be seen at FCD “Norris Division” games in Chicago, Columbus and Toronto. We’re a new group, made up of just one fan, but we’re accepting new members all the time.

    Skeeter,

Buzz isn’t a member of any of the groups. He has had an all-access press pass since he started 3rd Degree.

I am a member of Guardia Roja. Buzz has offered to get me a press pass before, but I have never taken him up on it for two reasons. One, I’m not a “real” journalist, and two I like watching the games standing with a drum in front of me.

    Steve,

    your welcome.

Chamo — Let’s talk on Sunday… It’d be great to coordinate between Guardia Roja and Los Toros as the season progresses (and we get big enough to be heard)…

Funny stuff, Uptown. With starting a new SG on the Sidelines, I feel like you must all the time.

Chamo, very good article & info. I do urge everyone to join a group, or start your own, or both.

Permit me to also put in a plug for tailgating before (and often after!) the games. The largest is the Inferno-you will be welcome there, and you can find others throughout the parking lots. My experience, since 1996, is that you will be welcome at them all, whether you can speak their language or not!

I’m a hybrid fan – I am a founding member of the Inferno and still enjoy tailgating (in the gold lot this year) and cheering with them. I try to spend a portion of every game with Guardia Roja (be sure to check their website with the sound turned on) and my season tickets are at the top of 108. If I could get down to rows 1 and 2 of 126 I’d probably join Los Toros. They are all good groups!

I have to say I am happy at how the unorganized group of vocal fans in the lower parts of 104 are slowly winning the section from the soccer moms. I don’t know everyone’s names, but I know Cai is in there. Being right behind the visitors’ bench presents all kinds of opportunities for good heckling.

Slowly but surely the stadium is gaining some atmosphere thanks in large part to these groups Chamo mentions.
