FCD Roughs Up Tulsa 4-2

March 13th, 2008 . 5:48 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FC Dallas scored twice in the first six minutes to take a 2-0 lead over Tulsa and never looked back.  What was mostly a FCD reserves side added two more goals in the second half before easing off the pressure and allowing Tulsa to nab two late goals.  FCD got several strong performances from youngster in a team of players who won’t factor against Los Angeles this weekend.

Abdus Ibrahim opened the scouring two minutes into the game when Blake Wagner nodded down a  floating ball in the box for Ibrahim to easily finish.  Ibrahim was active all game on the right wing of the FCD 3-4-3.

Wagner was again involved in the second FCD goal at the six minute mark.  Brek Shea, our Man of the Match, had switched to the right side on a crossing run.  Shea combined with an overlapping Michael Dello-Russo.  Dello-Russo was sprung free into the box and his driven shot was saved toward the back side of the penalty area where an unmarked Blake Wagner headed home the goal.

As yet unsigned DouDou Toure notched the third FCD goal with a unsavable blast from about 30 yards out.  Toure received the ball ten yards outside the box and was given time to tee up from deep.  The low driven rocket to the back post was quite impressive.

The fourth FCD netter again saw Shea and Ibrahim combine in danger areas.  Ibrahim made a run down the right side and whipped in a low cross just past the crashing defenders.  Only the agressive Shea was able to reach the ball and tapped it in.

Tulsa notched two goals late on, when lackadaisical possession in the FCD midfield resulted in turnovers and Tulsa counter attacks.  Ashley McInnes grabbed the first goal on a cross from Solar alumni Zach Nulisch.  The Hurricanes’ dynamic Eric DeFreitas nabbed the second goal on a great splitting pass out of the Tulsa midfield.

speaking to some of the FCD players after the game I know that some of the guys have a nasty cold that has been floating through the team. so I would say all in all a good performance.

DeFreitas is from Coppell, too. Great kid. Sounds like lots of the Tulsa players are from around here.

there is only one DI soccer program in texas – SMU- so yeah a lot of these guys end up in oklahoma or new mexico. All over obviously but for those that want to be somewhat close to home Oklahomer is a decent place to be. Houston Baptist will be the second in a few years – sad that the Big 12 doesn’t have men’s soccer imagine the team UT would have.

Cool – Wallace at LB. I wonder if he will be given an opportunity to progress there. I’d love to see him back there and get Serioux back up into CM where I thought he flourished last season (again after moving from DF).

I was quite impressed by DouDou’s performance, and judging from the comments from the FCD bench, the coaching staff were impressed as well. He still has the incosistencies you’d expect from a sixteen year-old, but he also has a level of skill and audaciousness that you don’t see often enough in soccer players in the USA.

love to hear that our top young dogs are making a difference. i wonder what kind of offense the reserves will run during games, since it seems like the 2nd group has always played in the 3-4-3. what is the purpose of this? i would assume that you would play with the same formation as your first squad to build cohesiveness.

Buzz, haven’t heard much about Avila in any of these games. I know he is sound technically, how has he been?

Chase, I’m planning on doing a MMG write up today on this game. I’ll have some various thoughts on some of these guys, including Avila.

3nout, this year FCD will be going back and forth between 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 depending on who is going to be playing. The players out there with the reserves more often fit the 3-4-3.

warren, audacity is a word, audaciousness is not.

buzz, im curious about Avila also. the reserves are loaded. is FCD so interested in getting trophies that they’ll go after the Reserve League championship also? Any chance that the FCD reserves will ever play in the Dallas Cup Super Group?

They have to many players 20 and up to play in the supergroup. They would have to fill out with non-professional players. Some of the FCD youth teams are in the Dallas Cup I believe.
