I never proclaimed to be some kind of photo journalist, but me and my little Canon PowerShot were at Pizza Hut Park last night for the uniform show. Here’s a few or the pics for your perusal.

  2. Comment by Buzz Carrick on February 28, 2008 9:21 AM

 I didn’t think my pics were that bad.

oh wait, you meant the jerseys.

  3. Comment by hutchtx on February 28, 2008 9:24 AM

I think they’re cool — or maybe it was just the models  ! I really like the away jerseys (except the red trim on the shorts . . . my first thought was that it should be blue).

    Thanks, Buzz!

  4. Comment by Chris on February 28, 2008 9:41 AM

I like them except for the white back on the home jersey. I hate when it looks like a completely different jersey from the back and the front.

Oh, and the MLS-wide techno-font is horrible, but the blue and white hoops on the away are awesome.

  5. Comment by Captincanuck on February 28, 2008 9:47 AM

Ok so the Replica jerseys don’t have solid backs? That is really lame IMHO.

  6. Comment by Tony Payne on February 28, 2008 9:55 AM

    away shorts blow how dumb
that stupid red trim ruins what would otherwise be one of the best unis in the league

  7. Comment by Chamo on February 28, 2008 9:57 AM

Fonts have this funny habit of growing on you. It is as predictable as death and taxes. By the time they change the font next year, you will be complaining about the “new” font, and wishing they would stick with the “techno-font”.

I dig the new red jerseys. The blue look is sharp, but right now it doesn’t “feel” FC Dallas. Twelve years of rooting against blue teams will do that. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time for the blue’s to grow some FC Dallas feel to them.

I love the plain white backs. Reading the numbers on the striped backs was practically impossible. Maybe a solid red and/or solid blue back would look better than the solid white.

  8. Comment by rhouston55 on February 28, 2008 9:59 AM

I always kind of liked the away greys, but I’m OK with these two. The stripes not going all the way around to the back is weird at first, but there were always complaints about not being able to read the back, so I guess it’s worth a try. Overall I like them. The only thing I’m sure sux rocks is that font. Does all of MLS have to suffer that font?

  9. Comment by Wes on February 28, 2008 10:01 AM

The home kit is a little too red for me. Love the away.

  10. Comment by FC Uptown on February 28, 2008 10:29 AM

I like blue steel especially. What is San Antonio Spur Michael Finley doing pressing the numbers?

  11. Comment by jayslick on February 28, 2008 10:38 AM

the color of the fonts being black is muy mal. on red kits white outlined numbers white a blue font, on blue kit, white outlined font with the font red. full hoops around the backs. how can you be hoops is the hoops dont go all the way around? besides when the front is mostly red and the back is all white, what does that leave teams with who are red kit home/ away white kit to wear? i dont wanna be a ref in that match.

i really dont understand the black numbers. what else is black on this team? nothing. thats poor design.

they are better. they arent as good as top leagues around the world in class, but they are better than they were, i guess thats all you can ask.

if i could get the chelsea adidas collar, the stripes going all the way around the home kit with the fonts ghosted with white with blue font to separate, then aways kits same but with red font ghosted on the blue, it would show up easy to read and not stray from out color scheme. you would get a top world class kit.

Im in agreement that they away shorts should either minimize the red a bit. like 25% less width to it, or i would actually switch that red to blue.

its close. but hey, you could always be the rapids, so cheer up.

  12. Comment by Ze Bill on February 28, 2008 10:51 AM

    I agree with Tony Payne.

Is the the solid white back [boo] an ADDITIONAL layer of fabric?

which, I hope not for the players’ sakes if the temperature ever goes above 72 degrees.

  13. Comment by Alejo on February 28, 2008 10:53 AM

Greeter lookin very sexy… Buzz, next time take more pic’s of the girls.

  14. Comment by hutchtx on February 28, 2008 10:53 AM

Are the Rapids still purple and baby . . . I mean sky blue? :P

  15. Comment by Big Easy Hoops on February 28, 2008 10:54 AM

Love them! Great photos . . . for all those who complain a/b the colors or look, be thankful you are not a werder bremen or palermo supporter.

  16. Comment by Ze Bill on February 28, 2008 10:54 AM

must agree with JaySlick in general, and esp. about the black being inconsonant in particular.

  17. Comment by Quills on February 28, 2008 11:03 AM

I believe the names and numbers are navy blue not black… I’m sure it will be more evident in the sunshine.

  18. Comment by Jeff on February 28, 2008 11:13 AM

So are we now the “Half-hoops”?

  19. Comment by Pegasus on February 28, 2008 11:51 AM

We were never the hoops, never liked that nickname. Try Red Stripes instead. Moor looks like a U8 kid wearing shorts too big so Mommy doesn’t have to buy them again in a few months because he keeps growing.

  20. Comment by Moedean on February 28, 2008 12:30 PM

Whats up with no hoops on the back. I thought it was stupid how they didnt go all the way around and line up in the past; but only having half hoops is dumb.

  21. Comment by Cai on February 28, 2008 1:21 PM

I like them overall. But agreed on half-hoops line, and don’t like color trim on shorts.

  22. Comment by JPB4 on February 28, 2008 2:00 PM

The jerseys are very sharp though I am lukewarm on the white backs. Also if a visiting team wears white jerseys it is more to our advantage to have the hoops go all the way around so as to not avoid any confusion. No big deal though.

The new away jersey is sweet. However……I HATE THE WHITE SHORTS AND WHITE SOCKS!! They should go with matching shorts and blue socks, I guess they’d look like Reading with that kit. Boo white shorts and socks.

  23. Comment by Buzz Carrick on February 28, 2008 2:01 PM

we’re thinking of going with “Bars” as the new nicknames instead of hoops. FC Dallas Bars.

  24. Comment by Easton FC on February 28, 2008 2:31 PM

Great, now I’ll start calling them the “attorneys”…

Funny that they look more like technicolor prisoners from the mind of Mel Brooks… I love them!

The kits are cool. White backs really aren’t a problem with me. And the white and blue kit for the road compells me to part with some money… GO HOOPS!!!

  25. Comment by mudpoet on February 28, 2008 3:10 PM

I think the inconsistent front/back is going to look horrible on TV.

I hate the solid back. HATE it.

  26. Comment by Bama on February 28, 2008 3:43 PM

The solid backs look like capes, the way they creep up on the shoulder. At least I hope that’s what Adidas was going for. How long until they (Adidas) get another attempt at not sucking?

  27. Comment by lax on February 28, 2008 6:22 PM

First the uniforms are terrible and are losing the “Hoops” look which really is huge mistake in marketing.
Second using poor Drew and Kenny as the face of the team while not paying either over $85K is criminal. Typical of MLS and FCD as they pay the Mexiacans and So Americans who don’t produce but because they are foureign ‘names’ they get the cash while the USA boys go hungry.

  28. Comment by Peter Welpton on February 28, 2008 7:20 PM

Hoops as a marketing design was a disaster from Day One. I know Buzz pushed for it, but the general masses don’t want to wear “hoops” out on their day to day travels… I have seen far more Beckham Galaxy and EPL team jerseys sported around Dallas since the change to Hoops. I used to see Burn solid red jerseys all the time. I can count the number of times I have seen someone wearing a FCD hoops top (not at a match) on one hand.

Yes, it is nice and traditional wear on the pitch, but I have no doubt FCD is one of MLS slowest selling jerseys because of the “hoops” look.

  29. Comment by Mike on February 28, 2008 8:18 PM

The road uni sux….especially the white shorts. They need to be blue with the blue and white jersey.

    I like the home kit!

  30. Comment by Timber on February 28, 2008 9:27 PM

I was hoping the home would be similar to Bayenr Munich. Don’t like the white backs at all. The red on the away shorts should be blue. These white shorts need to be worn with the home shirt.

  31. Comment by 3nOut on February 28, 2008 10:05 PM

the jerseys need to be more tight fitting on the players like the manikins at the draft. that woulld make it look a bit better. also, the red on the away shorts just looks out of place. at least go w/ blue or red socks or something to distract our eyes fromt the red strip.

  32. Comment by Pegasus on February 29, 2008 7:38 AM

Hey Hitman you think Flamengo jerseys don’t sell in Brazil? What about vertical stripes such as AC Milan?

Now that I’ve had a few days to look at them there are two things in common to both uniforms and a chance for a new nickname. Anyone like “White Stripes” or “White Backs”?

  33. Comment by Peter Welpton on February 29, 2008 9:02 AM

Peg: There is a big serious difference between Milan and Brazil when it comes to the style of wearing soccer jerseys. You just can’t compare those cultures with Dallas’.

And I just telling ya what I see around me, or more specifically, what I don’t see – FC Dallas jerseys. I contend its because of the design. I alway saw Burn jerseys…

  34. Comment by Chamo on February 29, 2008 10:49 AM

    Peter,

I think your experience is based on where live/work in the metroplex. People living closer to Dallas generally have the impression you have. While people in Collin County have a different experience. I never saw a Burn jersey out in public in Collin County. I do see FCD jerseys out an about Collin County all the time.

The area where FCD/Adidas really has improved over Burn/Nike/Atletica is making the jerseys available in youth sizes. Everytime I attend a school related event with my children, I always spot children wearing FCD swag.

  35. Comment by Skeeter on February 29, 2008 3:43 PM

    Go Chevrons!!!

  36. Comment by Ze Bill on February 29, 2008 9:04 PM

maybe FCD/adidas/MLS could try, as an experiment, to make available to the public a batch of a slightly muted version of “hoops: ? like, the red would be a gray-red mix and the white would be some kind of off-white.

for the consumer who doesn’t want the very bright hoops look you’d probably want to just make it out of cotton so your girlfriend would wear it for a nightie – which she doesn’t want to if it’s clima-cool or whatever miracle fiber.

  37. Comment by Peter Welpton on March 1, 2008 10:50 AM

Chamo: Fair enough. We do haunt different regions of the DFW area. That might be it, but again, I see soccer jerseys worn out and about in the Dallas proper area every day… just not FCD jerseys. I contend it is the “hoops” design.

  38. Comment by Aljarov on March 2, 2008 4:32 PM

Why does the replica not have a white back like the regular jersey?

Or was Oduro putting hte numbers and his name on the front?!

  39. Comment by KM on March 2, 2008 7:37 PM

Stink. Bad. Colors – who picked out these color combinations…was anyone whose vision WORKED consulted in this process?

I will not be willing to wear this kit and i will not spend any money…am i wrong or is this the point?

My kids think they are ugly…and PS i spent 200 bucks on the away jersey 6 months ago…they will be wearing them a while…

this team seems to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. I bought season tickets again and this will be the last time if the dont get their crap together.

PS one of the other posts was right…why cant we put 15-20 american kids on the team and develop some real local talent? Oh yea, we might get smashed in the first round of the playoffs and might suck in August in Sept. Boy i am glad we have all of those foreign players to keep that from happening.

I am going to bed now – but first i will read “FC Dallas and all of the Cups they have won” to my kids. Guess they will be going down pretty quick.

Stupid club cant get out of its own way. If Kenny, Drew and Dax and so powerful to have around why not 10-15 more?
