Chris Gbandi (Jason Gulledge, 3rd Degree)

FCD defender Chris Gbandi has finally been sold to FK Haugesund.  After a two week trial this winter, Gbandi had returned to Dallas to await an offer from the Norwegian club.  FCD received a buy offer early this week and negotiated the sale that went through today.

“It’s something that Chris wants,” said FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow. “and it’s something that I want to happen for him cause it’s what he wants at this stage of his career.

Originally acquired with the #1 over all SuperDarft pick in 2002, Gbandi didn’t play for the bUrn his first year due to injury and now leaves Dallas after 6 seasons.  In those six seasons Gbandi played in 111 regular season games and 6 playoff games.

Not noted as a goal scorer, Gbandi did score a couple impressive netters in his career and tallied 3 goals and 8 assists in his time with FCD.  Gbandi scored the final goal at the Cotton Bowl for the Dallas Burn and netted this blast last year against Real Salt Lake.

Good luck to Chris…you were underappreciated but a great soldier for this franchise.

Well FCD keeps bleeding talent and we only hear about possible help on the way. If the season startd today we don’t have a playoff team. Hitch Steve need to get off their collective butts.

“We thank Chris for his effort and commitment to FC Dallas over the course of his career,” said FCD Head Coach Steve Morrow. “We believe this is the right move for Chris at this stage of his life and we wish the very best for him in the future.”

“We’re proud that Chris was able to develop as a professional here in Dallas,” said FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock. “We want to thank him for his service to our club, both on and off the field, and wish him all the best in Norway.”

Just found the answer to my own question:
Goff just reported that there are dueling reports on the transfer fee (75k vs 100k), and that 2/3 of the fee becomes acquisition money for FCD. So, adding on his salary they won’t have to pay this year, they just opened up 150k-170k of extra cap room.
I’ll give the FO another month to sign some people before I start freaking out. I think they’ll get something done before the season starts.

I hate to say this; but this is best for everybody I think. No offense; but Gbandi was a very weak point in our defense. Most of the scoring that took place seemed to take place on his side.
