Detenido, el acuerdo económico con Davino - Rumbo Mexico
I don’t have time to provide a detailed translation, but here are the highlights of the article:

  • Morrow explains that the league operates with a salary cap (2.2 million in 2007), and that they have to fit Davino’s number under the cap.
  • Davino says that they know his capabilities on the field. Economically speaking we are close.
  • Davino’s agent Villalobos is trying to understand all of the intricacies of the compensation package because not all of the money the club can offer to a player counts towards the salary cap. Morrow says the better understanding the agent has of the salary cap, the closer we will get to an agreement.
  • FC Dallas has an extra $350k that does not count against the salary cap to aid in closing deals for special cases (aka sisgning bonus). Morrow plans to use part of the $350k on Davino, but does not want to use it all on one player.
  • Davino is not being offered a DP slot, even though the sum of the salary plus the signing bonus could put him over $400k.
  • Davino is interested in closing the deal. He likes the city and he likes the club.
  • Davino has other offers in Mexico, but does not wish to disclose who they are to prevent them from disrupting their negotiations with FCD.
  • Morrow thinks Davino could be the best defender in the league.

Basically says that River is trying to work out a loan deal with Zaragoza (Spain) to get D’Alessandro, and Denilson is the backup plan if that deal doesn’t come through.

Please get this deal done. All i’ve heard about this guy is good things and I would love to see him wearing hoops. Give him the DP slot if we have to.

That Fire article has some dubious information in it. Says Spencer is an assistant at FC Dallas. Also says Jeffries was the goalkeeper coach while with the Fire. Not sure abouth the Jeffries part but it doesn’t semm right.

Interesting quotes from the first article about Davino’s possible signing . . .

The special interest is that Morrow really wants a central defender to fill the vacancy left by Clarence Goodson. The coach indicated that Davino speaks English well and that because of his (path? role?) in Club America he could/might name him captain of the team, because he talks a lot on the field.

“I believe that with his expereince, he could convert (the team’s defense) into the best in the league,” added Morrow.

    Wow . . .

D’Alessandro is not going to River…. no way, no how. He had a good spell at Pompey and had all kind of Prem League teams looking to grab him. He is too young and too good to head west. That’s good for us!
