La jornada además contó con el elemento especial de la visita del emblemático defensa americanista Duilio Davino, que vino al Norte de Texas para negociar su posible contratación con el FC Dallas.
Davino quiere salir del futbol mexicano, emigrar al estadounidense, y para conseguirlo ni siquiera le importaría sacrificar dinero o proyección.
“Me gusta la liga y el club (FC Dallas)”, dijo ayer. “Así que hay interés de las dos partes. (Hoy) vamos a hablar para ver si podemos llegar a un acuerdo”.
El mexicano fue dado de baja el pasado 17 de diciembre por el América, equipo donde durante una década se estableció como el defensa más consistente del equipo y capitán en los últimos torneos.
“Es un gran defensa, por algo se mantuvo tanto tiempo con América”, dijo el recién contratado americanista Richard Núñez, quien enfrentó a Davino cuando era delantero de Cruz Azul y Pachuca. “Es de lo mejor que hay en México”.
Davino anticipó que el factor económico será secundario, ya que prioriza su motivación por estrenarse en un club extranjero, después de que sus 12 años en Primera División fueron en México, desde su debut en 1995 con Tecos, que también buscan sus servicios.
El FC Dallas indicó el viernes que Davino no ocuparía la plaza del jugador designado, que en resumen significa que su salario no rebasaría los $399,999 anuales.
“Gracias a Dios, ahorita no me importaría el dinero”, afirmó Davino. “Eso no sería la diferencia, más o menos dinero. Sería un proyecto nuevo y diferente. Eso me motiva. Esperemos que (hoy) lleguemos a un acuerdo”.
Una de las motivaciones para Davino es el consejo de su ex compañero Cuauhtémoc Blanco, quien debutó el torneo anterior en la MLS con Chicago.
“Hablé con Cuauhtémoc y le ha ido bien. Está muy contento”, señaló. “El futbol ha crecido mucho. Se ha visto no sólo a nivel de selecciones, sino también entre clubes”.
Para la MLS, la posible llegada de Davino puede representar un paso más en su expansión, después de que jugadores como Blanco, el colombiano Juan Pablo Ángel, el argentino Guillermo Barros Schelotto y el inglés David Beckham, entre otros emigraron con éxito.
“Es interesante traer un jugador con tanta experiencia como él (Davino)”, dijo Nelson Rodríguez, vicepresidente de la MLS. “Ya sucedió con Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Ángel, Claudio Reyna, Beckham o quien sea. Obviamente eso va a mejorar el equipo y la liga”.

This quote wasn’t (exactly — it was worded differently, I think)in the English version that I remember . . . it says: “Thank goodness that now it’s not the money that’ll be important,” said Davino. “It won’t be the difference, more or less money. It’ll be a new and different project. That’s what motivates me. We hope that we can reach an agreement.”
These words excite me — he sounds like a guy who will play hard and and isn’t just in it for the money or the fame (as it seems Denilson was). I’m hopeful about this!
