Davino on $400k?

January 12th, 2008 . 5:28 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Ives is reporting that Duilio Davino is on a $400,000 contract.

Sources have told me that newly-signed FC Dallas defender Duilio Davino will make in the $400K a season range, meaning he’s a max salary-plus player, not a designated player. That still sounds pretty pricey but apparently FC Dallas thinks Davino’s marketing potential makes him worth that money.

When I asked Steve Morrow if he cared to comment or refute the report he said, “No comment.”

To be fair that’s not unusual.  MLS in general and FCD specifically won’t talk or comment on contracts.

I’m trying to verify, not that I doubt Ives.  We might have to wait for the Players Union to leak the contracts next year to find out for sure.

Is that the highest salary for a defender in the league?

Buzz, if that figure happens to be true, what would be your thoughts on such a contract?

Seeing as how I’m not spending the money on Davino, I feel I really don’t have a say as to whether or not it was a good deal. It DOES sound pricey, but everything I’ve heard about Davino up until now has been great stuff.

I guess we’ll begin to see for ourselves come March 30. Though no one off-season is longer than another, this off-season feels like it won’t ever end… Darn it…

IF it’s right… It’s pricey for the caliber of player I believe him to be. But I think FCD/MLS is also paying for what they believe to be a very marketable Mexican star.

Only time will tell I suppose.

    little. If accurate…. yes.

If that number is correct, I’m issuing a SHAKA signing warning!

What a train wreck FCD has become. We couldn’t spend 150K on Goodson the young athletic player now part of the USMNT but spent 400K on the Mexiacn Greg Vanney. If he had anything left he would still be with Club America. He follows in the foot steps of Shaka and Denilson…yes our FO is filled with dopes. When will we hire some soccer personnel professionals.

Yeah, But now Goodson isn’t in the country. As much as I hated to see Goodson leave in the draft, it was a smart move since he left MLS anyway.

Goodson wasn’t protected because the FO knew he was going over seas. Good move? I think so. This signing will strengthen the back line (which we need) it will also bring in more of the Mexican population. Worth 400k maybe.

Any word on Saragosa these days?

The Goodson move now seems to be brilliant. So get off the FO and SM on that point.

As for Davino, that’s a lot to pay for a central defender. But do you all remember all the yellow jerseys in the stands for the ‘red and white’ Fire? This guy could be a gold mine for FCD and the league. Let’s hope is play comes close to his marketing value.

This is a good move for FCD.

    Ted,

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I agree with Ted, but hopefully we are proved wrong.

However, at least with Davino we’ll know early in the season what he will bring to the table so we’ll have plenty of time to start the “Fire Everybody” campaign.
