Meet Duilio Davino

January 11th, 2008 . 9:03 am . By: Buzz Carrick

With the 1800 stories out there and endless amounts of coverage, another rehash of Duilio Davino from us doesn’t benefit anyone.  So instead I figure I’ll pull a bunch of video of Davino off places like You Tube for your enjoyment.

    buzz,

got a draft question for you. would it be safe to say that w/ our #2 selection, it will eitherr be nyarko or julius james…whomever is left of the 2? that’s what i got from reading your stuff on espnsoccernet.

and, if they do get james, will morrow have to reconsider playing 4 in the back?

Well not all of my comments on the draft are Dallas specific. We’ll get into what I think Dallas will do closer to the draft.

RE;:Davino – Can you get more into the “why” he left CA? How much did he play last year (or in thepast few years)? Has he been injury riddled?

    Dan,

you can see Davino’s LMF stats here –> http://www.mediotiempo.com/jugadores/jugador.php?idj=1847

He was injured in 03, but has been fine healthwise since.

Club America decided it was time to change their situation in Central Defense as they let both Davino and Rojas go once they finsihed out there schedule in Dec 07, and have replaced them with players that are 4 to 5 younger than Davino.

Watching the talking heads in Mexico, they all agree with the timing of America’s move on Davino.

Keep in mind that the expectations that club has and what they did in the past year:

. America lost the finals of the Clausura tournament to Pachuca

. America then got bounced in the Quarter Finals of the Libertadores.

. America did not make it past group stage in the Super Liga

. Lost the play-in game to the apertura playoffs.

. Lost the finals of the Copa Sudamericana.

You can see why the felt a “shake up” was necessary. They were close to winning some important hardware, but didn’t quite make it. Davino was the captain of the club from the Super Liga point going forward, and was the “rock” in the middle for the entire year, and most of the previous 10 years.

It is all about expectations. If FCD had just concluded a similar run in 07, we would be pretty excited around here. However, for America it was dissapointing year.
