New Year Affirmations, Not Resolutions

January 2nd, 2008 . 6:50 pm . By: Chamo Jones

I have found writing affirmations much more powerful than making New Year’s resolutions. New Year’s resolutions are often forgotten within weeks. The key to making affirmations more effective is to be as specific as possible when writing them. I hope that FC Dallas and their fans incorporate some of these written affirmations and their accompanying visualizations into their conscious and unconscious selves and thus will be able to manifest them.

Enough of the metaphysical mumbo jumbo, here they are in no particular order:

Hitchcock will learn the lesson of 2003 and not move Ruiz unless it is for “fair market value”.  FC Dallas will have a pretty significant pre-season schedule with games against the LA Beckham’s, Paranaense of Brazil, and most likely a club or two from Mexico. This would give FCD a chance to re-build Ruiz’s goal scoring reputation once again. Moving Ruiz without a tangible replacement would set the club back years.

Kenny Cooper and Roberto Mina will find their pre-injury form and contribute significantly in 2008.

Hitchcock and his bosses at HSG will pull the trigger on another DP this year. This time they pick a guy that will clearly fill a void in the roster in addition to the glamour name. And they will structure the deal like they did with Denilson to give them the flexibility to get rid of the guy if he doesn’t fit in. An oversimplification of how to choose the next DP is to listen to the soccer savvy media, observers and fans. If they are overwhelmingly saying, can you believe that FCD is getting player X? Go for it. However, if you hear them asking can player Y, do this for FCD? Then he most likely isn’t DP worthy. It’s as easy as pie, no?

Steve Morrow will find and cement his system of play early in the season, so that his squad can grow comfortable with their roles within the system as the season progresses and they peak as they head into the playoffs. In 2007, he tinkered all season long, and continued tinkering right on through the playoffs. That was probably the biggest factor to the team’s inconsistency.

Capitán Ricchetti. If you have any doubts about it, go back and watch game 2 of the playoffs last year and pay close attention to the team coming off at half time.

Alvarez and McCarty will battle it out to see who will be given the keys of the bus until a DP is signed; and then they both will still get plenty of time to drive the bus as the DP minutes are regulated so that he can make a big impact during the playoff run.

A healthy Alex Yi finds a way to get on the field regularly. And makes us ask ourselves: – Goodson who?

Burse Jr beats out Sala for the number 1.

Ricardinho’s game will match the bright color of his shoes.

Toja Guitar hero night on the two big screens at PHP.

FC Dallas will retain the Brimstone Cup (automatic).

Los Toros and La Guardia Roja will grow to make the East side the place to be at PHP.

3rd Degree TV

And for good measure here are some leftovers from last year’s list:

FC Dallas will sweep the Houston Dynamo to reclaim the cannon.

FC Dallas will secure the top seed of the Western Conference.

FC Dallas will win its 2nd Open Cup.

FC Dallas will win its 1st MLS Cup.

FC Dallas will broadcast their English language radio games on the Ticket. There is no better marketing strategy than being part of the number 1 sports radio station in the market.

MLS will schedule all home FC Dallas games during the summer months to begin at 8pm.

MLSgear.com and FC Dallas Pro shop will sell FC Dallas coffee mugs.

MLSgear.com and FC Dallas Pro shop will sell FC Dallas beer mugs.

MLSgear.com and FC Dallas Pro shop will sell FC Dallas calendars.

The Inferno will grow large enough to take over all the sections behind the goal.

The Hoops nation road-trip bus will become a reality.

The Hoops nation will invade Monterrey and Curitiba to watch the Red Stripes play their sister clubs.

FC Dallas will sign local wonder-kid Brian Roberto Leyva.

Thanks for the laughs, total non-sense but funny anyway.

I just hope the English broadcasts are on a station that can be picked up clearly throughout the Metroplex. Pretty sad that you can not hear Ray’s post game show in the PHP parking lot.

    you should add…

taking seattle fc’s lead for fan voting on a GM, FCD adopts the format and votes Hitch off, allowing him to move to another MLS club to continue selecting bad players.

Hey Chamo I need to get me some of what your smoking because that must be some good stuff! Good idea by 3nOut though as I don’t think a lot of the staff would be here much longer with a fan vote.

The ticket is a sports station?

On those rare occasions I tune it in, all I ever hear them talking about is titty bars.

Hank, Truth, the sentiment behind all these affirmations is the old Air Force slogan: “Aim High”. While some may seem like pure non-sense, their soul is true.

Barefoot, I know see why their ratings are so high.

Chamo, Happy New Year, fun article.

Buzz, great new look for your site!
Love the blue, and everything is much easier to read. And I certainly understand the economics of the ads…but pls keep them off to the side and out of the articles if possible.

Now that Hitch is out of the mix… who’s in?

hey, don’t be mad at me…i’m just being a realist. hitch’s forte is marketing and sales, not player personel decisions. i kinda liken it to when the mavs were bought by ross perot, jr et al…then traded away jason kidd for a bag of magic beans. just like hitch, they were clearly not “basketball people.” good/bad publicity comes w/ the territory of being a GM.
