Beckham-mania part II
With the SuperDraft in the rear view mirror and the focus now on the start of the MLS season on March 30th, it’s rapidly approaching the time for MLS teams to open spring training. Spring training for FCD will begin this coming Monday, February 4th. FCD players will report for physicals on Friday, February 1st and will begin conditioning after the weekend. FCD should begin two-a-day training early in February, but the club has not released a specific schedule at this time.
As we at 3rd Degree continue our 10th Anniversary Celebration, we move on to the Top Ten Best Decision in FCD History. This is the corollary to the Worst Decisions Top Ten we ran a while back. One of the players of great interest to a MLS Draft/Roster watcher in the last few seasons has been SMU Alumnus Jay Needham. Needham graduated last year as a highly touted defender and seemed destined for Major League Soccer. Primarily a center back in college, Needham had a strong combine performance and was expected to go in the upper rounds of the draft.
Anyone else think Shaka Hislop might soon have a new job?
Over the last few weeks, FC Dallas has made several announcements that appear to be targeted at making inroads in the Hispanic market. A market that FCD has failed to attract effectively since they left the Cotton Bowl, the Hispanic audience remains key to long term FCD franchise health in the Metroplex. The recent announcement of the Mexican Olympic Team playing at PHP and FCD joining the Sueño MLS 2008 program, combined with the continued use of PHP for InterLiga games and the signing of Club America Star Duilio Davino, seem to be positive moves for attracting the lost Hispanic fan base.
