Drew Moor Called to US Camp
December 31st, 2007 . 1:34 pm . By: Buzz CarrickFC Dallas defender Drew Moor is one of 26 players called by Bob Bradley into the Jan. 3rd training camp at the Home Depot Center. Former FCD defender Clarence Goodson, recently selected by San Jose in the expansion draft, was also included. The group will prepare for the USA’s first match of 2008, a friendly against Sweden on Jan. 19 at The Home Depot Center. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel beginning at 5:30 p.m. PT. The largely domestic-based group includes 23 players who ply their trade in the United States. The MLS teams are well represented, with 13 of 14 clubs contributing players to the Carson camp. “This is the beginning of a very important year for the national team, and we are looking forward to continuing the work of 2007,” said Bradley, who completed his first year as head coach with a 12-5-1 record and the 2007 Gold Cup title to his credit. “This is another great opportunity to reinforce the principles of how this team operates both on and off the field, as well as giving us the chance to look at players that may be able to help us when World Cup qualifying begins in June.” After the Sweden match, the U.S. will host regional rival Mexico on Feb. 6 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. More than 30,000 tickets have been sold for the match that will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision. Along with a series of friendlies, the United States will begin the attempt to qualify for their sixth-consecutive World Cup finals when they take on the winner of the first round series between Barbados and Dominica. The U.S. will host their first qualifier between June 11-14, with the second leg to be played between June 18-21 on the road. Looks like a very young group. Good to see Bob trying out some newbies. Hopefully though he will call in the big guns for Mexico.
Buzz you clearly said that there would be no FCD players in this camp so what happened?
I’m not omniscient and I don’t think I stated it as definitively as all that anyway.
Are you saying you’re not shocked to see Moor and Goodson in there? I sure as hell am.
Do you think Cooper should have been called? Just wondering . . . I wasn’t paying attention yet when he played with the USA team against Guatemala, so I don’t know how he did back then.
No I don’t.
In the midfield should that be “Brad” Davis instead of Brian?
I know Drew was surprised.
Nut, I’m sure. If that’s the only mistake in the US Soccer press release then they are getting better.
Buzz,
You talked let you knew something about which Dallas players would or wouldn’t be called and obviously you were just guessing like every other fan. If you don’t know something just tell us or if you guess tell us that. No harm to not know.
How many players listed were unprotected in the expansion draft?
When exactly was expansion to SJ confirmed?
Tex, I wasn’t guessing. Sometimes things change.

Buzz, your apparent dislike of Cooper (for whatever reason) is a bit much. He certainly did deserve to be called in.
Dislike of Cooper? Are you crazy? I love Cooper. I’m the one who wants to get rid of Ruiz and build around Cooper.
But in terms of this camp, Cooper is still coming off the broken leg. He hasn’t done anything since his return to warrant a call for this one.
Now this year when Cooper bags 15 goals for FCD, then I am sure he will get another call and it will be well deserved at that point.
Just not now.
Cooper’s done more than White (though they are different types of talent)
Buzz,
Do you think there’s something more than the ” he’s just coming off the injury ” ding on Cooper?
He did play towards the end of the season and has been training with Man U. He ought to be in as good a shape as any of the others football wise.
It’s not as if we have any depth up top. There’s not one forward on Bradley’s list who’s been able to lay claim to a starting spot up top. I DQ Donovan b/c if we had better forwards he’d be in the midfield.
it’s possible. If he had scored a bunch I would be more curious. It may be as simple as top form. Or giving some other chances. But Cooper hasn’t been called since his one cap, So I do wonder.
But score bags of MLS goals and he will almost certainly be back in one would think.
If scoring goals is the prerequisite for a forward being called up (and of course it should be), then who in their right mind would select Cooper? I will be rooting for a Cooper rebound in 2008, but I am also not holding my breath. I did not see any instinct for the goal, nor did I see any finishing quality in his play.
We are in dire need of serious striker capability. Abe and Dom would be hard-pressed to make another squad shy of Toronto or Salt Lake.
On defense, Moor and Goodson are “okay” but not neither are super based on 2007 results. Just look at our goal differential vs. a solid team defense. Goodson’s header ability on cross kicks and his hustle will be missed.
So what type of defenders should Dallas be looking for? The MLS allows Houston’s “hockey player” defenders to get away with murder (body-checks, shirt tackles, etc.) that would never be tolerated in European or South American leagues. Why can we not steal Bocanegra, or an enforcer like Onyewu (who produces more cards than a magician internationally, but would fit right in with the MLS leatherneck defenders)??
