FC Dallas midfielders Dax McCarty and Arturo Alvarez have been called to Peter Nowak’s next U23 camp January 6 to 20 in Bradenton, Florida, in preparation for the 2008 CONCACAF Men’s Under-23 Championship.

The  Under-23 Championship will be held from March 11-23, in Los Angeles, Tampa and Nashville. The U.S. will play their three games of the group stage in Tampa against Cuba on March 11, Panama on March 13 and Honduras on March 15. The eight-team tournament will send its two finalists to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.  Several players remain absent that will likely make the final U23 team, notably Michael Bradley, Freddy Adu, and Danny Szetela.

“With Olympic qualifying only two months way, this camp gives us a great opportunity to continue the work we began last month in China,” said Nowak. “There is a tremendous amount of competition for spots on the roster, and we will continue to evaluate players as we focus on developing a team that can qualify for the Olympic Games.”

Eight players in camp were part of the team that earned two draws against China during a December tour of the 2008 Olympic host country. Goalkeeper Chris Seitz was between the pipes for both friendlies, earning a shutout in the first, while Rogers, Patrick Ianni and Stuart Holden each tallied a goal in the 3-3 tie on December 16. Rounding out the group who traveled to China is defender Mike Randolph, midfielders Arturo Alvarez and McCarty and forwards Robbie Findley and Charlie Davies.

Does Wagner have any chance for this if he’s healthy and starts performing well or is it too late.

Buzz, any word on Alvarez’s Hoops future? How did the trial in France go?

I understand the trial was positive. But based on what I am hearing I think both player and team are interested in his being back in Dallas. I’d call it 60/40 in favor of him being back with FCD.

Wagner has a shot at the Olympics, but it’s probably too late for qualifying. He’ll need a big break out year though.

buzz, no Feilhaber or Edu listed here as a person for the U23 roster? also do they still allow the 3 overage exemptions for the Olympics? I’d like to see Convey, Dempsey, Moor, or someone like them on this roster gaining International leadership experience.

TT, There are certainly others, I just listed three big names off the top of my head to make the point. Altidore for example. Or local boy Lee Nguywn.

They don’t allow overage players at the Olympics anymore.

buzz, while we’re at it….can u imagine the horror show we’ll have to endure with either WYnalda or Marcelo Balboa trying to determine the difference between Freddy Adu and Maurice Edu phonetically during a broadcast?

also, Does Denilson not count as a TOp 10 biggest mistake in FCD history (or Shaka for that matter)?

  8. Comment by Buzz Carrick on January 3, 2008 9:16 AM

tt, Hislop was #3 and Denilson #7 in the biggest mistakes.
