3rd Degree

Two Nuts

December 19th, 2007 . 11:26 am . By: Buzz Carrick

So the other day at the Supporters Club Christmas Party, Hitchcock says FCD is looking at two players from Clube Atlético Paranaense to bring in next year, 22 and 23 years old and “would be two of the best players in the league.”  So just who might these players be?

I think it’s fairly safe to say they would be players CAP brought to T&T as those are players they were looking to showcase.  I also think it’s safe to assume Hitch wasn’t 100% accurate on the age thing, but instead just gave us a ballpark so I’ll consider 20 to 24 or so.  CAP is in the business of selling players after all.  Their team was made up of young fringe first teamers, U20s, and some players back from loan.  I took a look back at my notes from the games in T&T and I’ve come up with a list of some likely candidates.  I’ll list them here and add a few notes of my own and from the fellow who runs http://www.furacao.com/ which is like 3rd Degree but for CAP.

Will FCD land any of these guys?  Hard to say, but given the CAP relationship one is certainly not out of the question, perhaps a second.  It’s the off season, what else do we have to talk about.

Possible CAP Players

I’ll list them in order I believe their likelihood of being the guy based on my own personal opinion.  I’ll add comments if I have them from my contact at Furacao.

1. Rocha - Andre Guerreiro Rocha  M, 23
Wikipedia says he’s a right back, and I know he’s played there, but he was a central mid when they played in T&T and was the best player at the tournament.
This is my favorite player of the bunch. Big (6′1″), fast, and mobile with wonderful feet and presence. He plays stylistically like John O’Brien except he’s over 6 feet tall. Box to box player.  Here’s a comment from my friend from the south.

This is the best player you mentioned. He used to be in our main team a few years ago. I don’t really know what happened, but he was one of our important players in the 2005 Libertadores Cup.

2. ChicoLuiz Francisco Grando M/D, 20
A more defensive midfielder while in T&T but could perhaps be a center back. Another tallish player (6′0″), very physical. Style wise he plays like Dunga, except of course not as good as Dunga, these things are relative.

He is a good player, very young, so there are a lot of things to be done. I think in a few years he is going to be a starter here.

3. RogerinhoRegerio De Assis Silva Coutihno F, 20
A short and super quick darting striker. Like John Spencer except faster and better feet.

He has good skills, but doesn’t play for the team. Need to work on that and on his shoot accuracy.

4. Murilo - Murilo Bedusco dos Santos RB, 23
A run up and down all day right back. Wonderful energy and tenacity.  He’s been on loan with Rio Branco.

5. BoliviaEdvaldo Rojas Hermoza F/M, 22
A #10 type, tricky on the ball, good passer.  He’s been out on loan with a couple teams but has been back with CAP for 2 years.

6. Everson – Everson Lins Ferreira F, 20
I could never find on line, but finally got a sniff on the CAP site where he’s just called Everson.  He’s very Ante Razov like and not very Brazilian in style, a more direct target kind of striker. Can drift out of the game a bit then steal a goal.

7. Joao LeonardoJoão Leonardo de Paula Reginato D, 22
A central defender, captain for Paranaense in T&T. A bit too slow in my opinion for a morrow pick but a smart somewhat experienced defender.  Plays defense by anticipation and reading of the game.

Special thanks to Daniel Robertson for the initial quote and to Parrothead for looking up some possible players.

Crazy comment by Hitch just shows how far away FCD is from being good at this game. Didn’t he say the same thing about Denilson and Ruiz? Yeah, he’s part of the problem with this team/league.

I don’t blame Hitch for giving the supporters hope for next season at all. But I do think its going to take patience to integrate more of these youthful South American players. We’re actually fortunate to have seen Ricardinho go through this process, so that we have an idea what to expect in terms of talent and maturity.

Hi Buzz ! Nice to meet you ! I’m from Brazil…. Talking about Murilo … He is a nice boy and a great soccer player !
Maybe in january CAP loan him to another club ! I think he should be loan to FCD. He already plays with Ricardinho and this opportunity will be great to FCD.

as long as we’re getting help in our weak areas, i’ll be elated. let’s hope hitch knows what he’s talking about and not just blowing smoke. we’re close to competing w/ the big boys…we just need to be led properly.
