In the midst of a great report by Steve Hunt about player options is the following tidbit that is of great interest to FCD followers.
Other than Ruiz, the big name of the bunch is Toja, a huge fan favorite in his first season who had six goals and one assist. Not only has FCD picked up his option for 2008 but the club is also working to buy his contract from Colombian side Santa Fe in the offseason.
“We picked up his option for next year and also exercised the option to buy his rights,” Morrow said. “So, we’re working on that right now as well. It will take a few weeks to really work that out. We have to work out the payment for his rights but we’re very happy with him. We look forward to having him here next year. I think it’s a big statement for us that we’ve gone ahead and exercised the option and bought his rights.”
So FCD is buying Toja.
Count me in as one saying this is a excellent move. FCD will now need to work out the contract details and salary cap impact of the move. Player purchases are prorated over the course of the players contract in terms of cap impact. FCD has picked up Toja’s option for 2008, but his cap number will go up quite a bit with the buy factored in.

Great move!
Woo hoo! Great to see it in print, even though we all figured FCD would do this.
Thank God i was worried that they were going to let him go. I would have been pretty upset if the FO did.
I’ll believe it when I see it, this FO is capable of screwing anything up.
yeah!! Toja is awesome!
woooooooooo hoooooooooooo
best news of the offseason so far
Great move. Let’s find another one or two like him. Incredible passion for the game.
since we’re no longer paying denilson, we should be able to afford his raise.
