FCD Leaves for Trinidad and Hislop Tribute Cup

Travel roster is full up, but guess who else is going along?

November 28th, 2007 . 1:08 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FC Dallas loaded up the bus, headed for the airport, and then Port of Spain today to play two exhibition games in the Shaka Hislop Tribute Cup, which honors the recently retired FCD and Trinidad and Tobago national team goalkeeper.  FCD helped fill out the tournament buy getting  Brazilian-partner Clube Atletico Paranaense to join in the small tournament.  Both CAP and FCD will play a team of all-Trinidad players and a second team consisting of up foreign players from the TT Pro League.

According to FCD, along with the matches, FC Dallas and Atletico Paranaense will each conduct separate clinics for kids on Thursday afternoon. On Saturday, representatives from FCD, CAP, the TT Pro League, and each of the 10 TT Pro League clubs will hold a meeting to share business practices and player development ideas and philosophies.

In addition to the travel squad of players and staff FCD is sending, 3rd Degree is also proud to announce that we will be hitting the road on Thursday to cover FC Dallas while down in Trinidad.  This will be the 5th time 3rd Degree has traveled to cover the team in a foreign country and to the best of our knowledge we remain the only media outlet to ever do so.  Since we didn’t make the brazil trip this spring we decided to jump onto this post season tournament as a minor replacement.  Plans are also underway to try and accompany FCD to what we assume to be their likely destination of Brazil in late February or early March.  As always we are more than happy to accept donations to help facilitate our travel since this website operates at a loss.

Have fun in T & T, I have always enjoyed the away coverage very insightful. Missed last years since you couldn’t go. Any word on how close Saragosa & Ruiz are to their green cards yet?

    Thanks Cai. email sent.

David, no word yet but I haven’t asked in a while. I’ll try to remember to do so.

Buzz, I appreciate your covering to team but this seems like a waste of your resources unless it’s just a vacation. Nothing will happen that will effect next season, many players are missing and most on the trip will not be back with fcd next year. Enjoy the sun and surf though.

On the contrary, FCD will only be missing Serioux and Ricchetti… maybe Sala. Ruiz and Gbandi are both odds on to not be around next year. Alvarez… A couple of the kids like Mccarty and Wallace. But this gives me a chance to evaluate the left over pieces. Saragosa, Cooper, & Mina and their progress… A trialist or two, scout some of the players of CAP and the T&T league just as Morrow is doing. See how the attempt at 3 at the back goes. It’s going to be a fascinating weekend.
