The 3rd Degree report earlier in the week that a trade sending Ronnie O’Brien to Toronto FC was being lined up has proven to be true, as FC Dallas has today shipped their Irish midfielder north in exchange for Ex-Houston Dynamo midfielder Adrian Serioux. Serious was selected by Toronto in today expansion draft and then immediately sent to Dallas. FCD also get Toronto’s natural second round pick (14th overall) in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.

“While it was difficult to let Ronnie go, we feel that with this trade we were able to add a key player in Adrian while retaining other valuable components of our team,” said FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock. “Adrian is a versatile player who played a pivotal role in Houston winning the MLS Cup, and we’re confident that he will play a major role in the future success of this team.”

As was speculated on this site earlier in the week, Toronto’s passing on any FC Dallas players in the expansion draft was a strong indicator the trade would go forward. While not officially part of the trade, this is exactly the kind of handshake agreement that can accompany a expansion draft day trade.
