It’s been a little while since I done one of those and some of you may not be familiar with them. In case your not a do a travel log type bit with lots of stuff I am seeing and doing with soccer mixed in. I will also do some game reports, but they won’t be like traditional newspaper stories. That I’ll leave to official PR types. Instead I’ll do some thoughts and notes on the games, basically the same thing I do in the Monday Morning Gaffer series.

I’ve said on several occasions that FCD’s head coaching gig was one of the lowest paid in the league, but I’ve never been able to back it up with numbers…

FC Dallas loaded up the bus, headed for the airport, and then Port of Spain today to play two exhibition games in the Shaka Hislop Tribute Cup, which honors the recently retired FCD and Trinidad and Tobago national team goalkeeper. FCD helped fill out the tournament buy getting Brazilian-partner Clube Atletico Paranaense to join in the small tournament.

It’s a bit cold today but clear and beautiful. It’s a wonderful day to be back training after a week or so off for the team. Today is also the day Oscar Pareja said goodbye to the players and staff. What a run it’s been.

Heart and Soul of the franchise departs after ten seasons.

Little would we imagine ten years ago when Oscar Pareja first came to Dallas in exchange for Damian how much he would mean to this franchise. The stats only tell the surface story and over eight seasons it’s an impressive list; 206 games, 13 goals, 57 assists, 2 team MVPs, 2 Napalm Awards, 1 MLS Best XI, and a story book goal in his final Dallas game. Rather I think what we will all truly remember is the leadership, dedication, professionalism, and integrity Pareja brought both on and off the field. There has never been a classier nor more respected player for this team. No one has influenced more players in this franchise history than Oscar Pareja. |
