FCD to Likely Open Playoffs Oct 27th at Home

With only one game left in the regular season, against Kansas City, FC Dallas is locked into 3rd place in the Western Conference.  While there are several scenarios out there that could influence the playoff picture, our sources say FCD is moving ahead with plans to host their opening game of the 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs on Saturday, October 27th a Pizza Hut Park.  The second leg road game will almost certainly be on the following Saturday on November 3rd in either Houston or Los Angeles.

With Houston facing Real Salt Lake this Monday night, the end of regular season match up of the Dynamo and Chivas will likely decide first place between the two team teams, and thus determine which team will finish 2nd and face FCD.  According to our sources, FCD will not be broadcasting their home playoff opener in the Dallas market, but is looking to broadcast their second leg game on Channel 52 locally.

We would of course advise anyone not to take any of the above as written in stone until the final playoff standings are determined and the schedule officially announced.

Unless they expect it to sell out, there’s no reason to broadcast it. Get to the damn game and be loud!

Words like ‘possible’ and ‘likely’ and ‘could’ undermine my confidence in when we will being playing. Thanks for trying to give a heads-up any way.

Look at the standings yourselves. We are locked in at #3 in the West. We will be hosting the 1st leg at home on the 27th. Where the second leg is is yet to be determined.

If we play Houston, the 2nd leg wil be on Friday, Nov 2nd.

FCD can’t finish in the top 4, and could finish behind NYRB for 6th (either way a massive drop from last year when the coach was fired for finishing 3 pts. from the Supporter’s Shield, but I digress), and possibly play the Revs.

Why can’t FCD confirm today a 10/27 first round match against TBD? PHP shamefully booked that night?

Riddle me this: Why have the first round be a home and away series?

Uwe, the above schedule has the highest probability of happening and FCD is moving forward with those dates. But this is MLS and things do change.

Swb, while it is the best 8 teams make the playoffs, the brackets are still done by conference. FCD in 3rd will play the West #2. Only if the extra 5th East team makes it will that worst east team shift to the west and play the West #1 in place of the West #4 who didn’t make the playoffs.

    swb -

As I understand the playoff layout this year, they only move a team from East to West (or vice versa) at the bottom of the overall records standings. We’ll be playing a West foe, either Houston or Chivas.

As for not confirming 10/27 yet, Houston could still finish ahead of Chivas, thereby changing our opponent. And TV has yet to weigh in on the matchups. I don’t know if ESPN is showing any games, or if Telefutura still has their Sunday MLS slot. If they do, I would think Chivas-FCD might get moved to Sunday for TV. Not a qualified fact, just a wild guess at the variables that could be involved….

    Thanks for the clarification.

Are we in or out of next years Super Liga? Or is that one of those “MLS things” that may change?

If we’re up against Houston, I don’t care where it is — we need to be loud both at PHP and at their high school stadium.

We’re out of next years SuperLiga, sadly.
As for hosting our first round playoff game, it could be anytime between that Thurs through Sunday…TV will decide.
