Pat Onstad Was Robbed

October 31st, 2007 . 9:05 am . By: Buzz Carrick

In a complete perversion of justice, Brad Guzan is your MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

What’s a guy gotta do to win the GOY award?  Clearly setting the all-time single season goals against record by a wide margin isn’t enough.  I mean the point is to keep out goals right?

Guzan had 13 shutouts but worse GAA at 0.93, nice but that tells me he’s inconsistent compared to ONstad.   Onstad has only two less shutouts and one less win than Guzan, but Onstad’s 0.82 GAA should have told anyone voting everything they need to know.  GAA shows day in to day out mastery of the net and Onstad’s 0.82 shatters the old mark held by Hartmann of 0.91 in 1999.

And parkhurst will get Defender of the Year even though NE conceded only one less goal than FCD with a better GK and the best holding MF in the with Joseph.
All these awards are simply stupid, Blanco plays 14 games and he’s up for MVP and new commer….nuts.

you’re kidding right? you make it sound like Onstad is a FC Dallas guy (which I could understand you complaining if he was)…sure he was deserving but Guzan got more press and love from ESPN and he had some pretty damn good stats too.

Plus, more people voted for the club who was on top at the end of the season….that would be Chivas and not Houston.

Not kidding. Chivas finished 1 point above Houston.

    Coastal media bias.

I hate to disagree, but I think Guzan deserved it. His defense wasnt nearly as good as Onstads and he faced more shots, had more saves, and had a better record.

But if you look at it, Bouna Condoul was much busier and played every game for his team.

GAA doesn’t tell the whole story. Onstad has the most organized defense in the league playing in front of him.

Guzan had much less in front of him and is supposedly entertaining offers from Europe. He’s ready to be the next great American keeper. Onstad plays behind great defenders and a defensive-first team philosophy. Record be damned, Guzan was much better.
