FCD News Recap

October 4th, 2007 . 8:33 am . By: Chamo Jones

FCD loses the final in front of it’s home crowd. Offensively they looked better than they have in a long time. Unfortunately the defense still shows no signs of getting any better. Serioux and Wagenfuhr in particular had really bad nights. The bright spot was that Alvarez looked like the Alvarez we saw before Denilson showed up. Confident, involved, creating chances, and scoring. At this point, I rather see the “good Alvarez” for the rest of the season instead of the one that plays when Denilson is on the field. Another bright spot was getting to see Cooper’s first minutes since the injury.

Watching three visiting teams in three years celebrate a championship at Pizza Hut Park is getting really old. If I were mystically inclined, I would start talking about some sort of rebranding curse. The Burn never lost a final. FC Dallas has lost two. The pragmatist in me will point out that the Burn only made it to one final in 9 years. FC Dallas has played two in three years.

And before I forget, congratulations to the New Revolution and their fans. After several season of continued excellence that was always coming up short one game, they finally won that big game.

Ok. I thought Serioux did a great job last night. Although, I was extremely disappointed, again, in Dax. He is a bit young and needs some time on the bench learning from better players. He needs to learn how to pass and how to kick to someone, during a corner kick, not just kicking in a general direction. I also was disappointed in Ruiz as he always seemed to be watching the game not playing in it. Morrow made a mistake in keeping Sala in the game. When you have Burse ready and warming up pre-game, you need to play him. Those are my critics on the team. Ultimately, I think the game was decided not by the players but by the referees. Something that has to change if MLS ever wants the world to take them seriously.

“Dax needs time on the bench”? WTF?! He’s a stud that gets better every time he plays. Yes he’s young but he needs to be learning on the field.

The team let in three crap goals not the referees. A good team should overcome bad calls, especially in a championship game when they need to bring their level up.
