This season was supposed to be much different for the Galaxy. They were supposed to get by prior to Beckham’s arrival with a strong mix of youth and veterans, and then take over the league once “The Blond One” came into the side. Instead, the entire year has been a disaster, and the league’s golden franchise finds itself looking towards 2008 unsure if its coach or GM will be back.
He’s Baaaacccck!! It was Brimstone Cup Game 2, Chicago at FC Dallas and our man with the big lens Jason Gulledge is back with some photos.
After a hard-fought first half in which Dallas looked to have corrected some of last game’s team defense problems, Pablo Ricchetti left the game with a hamstring injury. Chicago launched an assault on the Dallas goal as the FCD holding mids again collapsed into the back line. That allowed Chris Rolfe the space to score a pretty goal from distance. The Fire made defensive subs to try to keep the Hoops off the board, but Carlos Ruiz leveled the score in stoppage time to give Dallas the Brimstone Cup and a point.
It never is fun to be the “away” team at home…
Injuries, new personalities and an overall funk has overcome the squad of late and Thursday night’s display continues to show that the team struggles to beat teams that are even behind them in the standings.
For all the ridicule the Fire received for the Blanco addition, the Mexican International has come in and proved all of his critics wrong. His skill and work rate have turned around a dismal season. Chicago are 4-2-2 since his arrival, and now find themselves in the 8th and final playoff spot. The Fire come to Dallas not only looking for the Brimstone Cup, but also to solidify their playoff position.
Big brimstone game today has a mexican accent…
So yesterday I notice that Ives Galarcep stole one of my bits when he wrote about a States All-Star Team. He did a New Jersey one and posted a New York one as well. You see back in the early days of 3rd Degree (97-98 give or take) I floated the idea of a US States Cup with “National teams” representing each state. I went so far as to do one for Texas and then attempt one for the rest of the 50 states.
Training under the lights…
