Today was the first day in ten years of covering FC Dallas that anyone has ever asked for a credential for me to go inside the fence and watch FCD training. Not sure if my pen, pad, and camera was a big enough give away but after explaining who I was there were no issues. Still weirded me out though. This is not your father’s MLS.
FCD held a press conference for the newest player today to introduce him to media and fans. Really professional event all the way around with about 300 media, fans, and FCD employees in attendance. Denilson signs…
Something about this doesn’t smell just right.
After various reports leaked out of Brazil today, followed by a ESPN news story, FCD has confirmed the signing of Brazilian ‘98 World Cup star Denilson. As reported by various sites, including this one, FCD had been speaking to Denilson for over a month about joining the team as a Designated Player signing. Two weeks ago our source familiar with the situation called the talks “dead in the water” as the deal had stalled over contract terms, specifically the length of the contract guarantees, and not over the monetary amount.
