FCD News Recap
August 8th, 2007 . By: Chamo JonesThe good guys advance to the US Open Cup semi-finals. Next opponent will be the Seattle Sounders, September 4th, at their house. Some quick hit observations about last night’s game: . Great victory by Dallas. The team was playing their fifth game in the past 2 weeks, and they still found the fortitude to fight through the fatigue to get the result. . Charleston’s webcast proved once again to be better than anything I have ever seen FCD put together. And while we are at it, their announcer is 100 times better than Ray Canevari. . Towards the end of regulation it became obvious that Dallas was going to win this game as they tilted the field towards Charleston’s goal, and their defenders were struggling with fitness. It was a matter of time. Had Moor and Thompson put away their chances inside the six, it would have been over without having to play the extra 30 minutes. . I don’t understand why Morrow and his staff decided to let Toja play out the first half when it was obvious that his night was done after suffering the injury. Why risk making it worse? . The passing radar of Ricchetti, Serioux, and Gbandi was off so bad that it was surprising when they actually completed a pass. Even then half of those passes put the recipient in a compromising position. Fortunately, Charleston’s passing was just as bad. . Gbandi was very solid defensively. Nobody got by him. A big contrast to last year’s game at Charleston when he was exposed over and over again. . McCarty was a monster last night. Great workrate, vision, and creativity. His service on set pieces and corners caused all kinds of problems for the Battery including the Goodson goal. . Goodson was his Good self. . Alvarez continues his scoring tear (now 4 goals in 5 games) by scoring the game winner despite looking like he had nothing left in his tank the entire second half. On every dead ball situation, Alvarez was could be seen “stretching it out”, grimacing, and generally moving like I do when I first wake up in the morning. Hopefully it is just muscle soreness, and not an injury. . Thompson put in a good effort working hard all game long. His finishing wasn’t there, but he did everything else right. He gave Toja half a goal when he sent him through for a 1v1 witht the keeper (the post took the other half). . Ray Burse Jr looks more and more comfortable with each and every start. He didn’t have make any monster saves, but he handled all the routine stops with ease and confidence. There wasn’t anything he could do about the goal. It was just a well struck ball to the upper 90. Big win last night. And if anyone takes these for granted, check out the Colorado “highlights” from last night…they got crushed!

So Ramon is leaving MLS, but doesn’t know where? If FCD can’t get him to one of the partner teams, can’t they release him but retain his MLS rights?
I guess his beef is with Marrow, but we sure could have used a happy midfielder down the strech, with Toja/Richetti burn out imminent.
Nunez is lame.
Our guys showed a lot of endurance, while we definitely look tired, Charleston looked more so. I can’t blame them..
Our passing is getting worse.. it was already bad. Like the author mentioned, the only saving grace was that they were worse than us. It seemed like each time we made a bad pass that gave possesion to Charleston, that Charleston immediately passed it back to us.. It was quite comical in a way. Ricchetti really needs to take it up a notch here. Although he continues to be good at disrupting the opponent’s attack, he’s equally as consistent in disrupting ours with his miserable passing.
Agree with the author also, McCarty was outstanding.. Vision, Workrate, passing were all fantastic. I couldn’t believe the energy he showed all the way to the end.
Great game for the guys. thank goodness Serioux got the ball back everytime he lost it. that could have killed us. Ricchetti and Toja need a rest. Well Toja going to get his but it’s at a cost. Pitch and Wags did well coming off the bench. I think the Columbus game Sat. Is a good game to rest players. I feel bad for Nunez but, he played him self right out of the league. He should be an Allstar in the USL.
