2008 FC Dallas Jerseys

August 28th, 2007 . By: Buzz Carrick

The following images are of jerseys that were obtained from an Adidas Outlet store.  3rd Degree has confirmed with our league sources that these images are indeed accurate images of the 2008 FC Dallas jerseys.  These specific images are of prototypes that were used by adidas when designing the 08 look.

FCD’s home jersey will be red and white solid hoops on the front and back with a white adidas logo seen pictured here. Not seen in these images is the FC Dallas word mark that will be on the front of the jersey if no jersey sponsor is signed by the club.  On some of the prototypes the word mark on the home jersey is blue with a white outline. FCD will be wearing red shorts and red socks at home similarly to 2007.

The big change for FCD in 08 comes on the road kit.  FCD will be sporting a blue hoops jersey for the road with solid hoops on both the front and back with a white adidas logo on the chest.  The word mark on the road looks like it may be red with a white outline. Whites shorts and socks will be paired with the blue hoops tops in a look reminiscent of Celtic FC.

I was just wondering about these the other day. Thanks! Can’t say that I do not think they could be better…I suppose they will look a lot less like practice shirts once they have a name on the front. I am a big fan of the blue from the back. On either I do not know what I think yet of the stripes across the sleeves (colors). Why can’t we copy Bayern Munich?

  2. Comment by TheGribbler on August 28, 2007 8:07 pm

    EWwwwwwwwww

Maybe its just the way they lay on the table, but they look almost diagonal. I do like that we went to the blue hoops, but if we’re going to wear blue hoops then the sleeves also need to be blue, rather than red. Should have just kept the home kit the same. No change needed.

  3. Comment by Buzz Carrick on August 28, 2007 8:08 pm

Grib, the road uni needs to stay mostly white or neutral, so they were kinda stuck not doing blue sleeves.

  4. Comment by MaskedWriter on August 28, 2007 8:14 pm

I like the road kit — espically compared to the gray that we are currently fielding. The home jerseys … not quite sure yet.

  5. Comment by TheGribbler on August 28, 2007 8:15 pm

If that’s the case then why red stripes instead of blue? Either way its throwing in a lot of color.

  6. Comment by captincanuck on August 28, 2007 8:19 pm

Maybe its jut the pictures or the lack of name/sponsor but i don’t like them. One thing i do like is the blue.

  7. Comment by iguana on August 28, 2007 8:21 pm

As a fan of Dallas’ away kits, I’m disappointed. The home jersey is slick, but the away is jersey leaves a bit to be desired. I think what bothers me is the upper-most, centered blue section on both the front and back. The home jersey is a solid, clean red, sleeve to sleeve. I wonder why the away jersey couldn’t do the same with white. :?:

  8. Comment by fc dizzle on August 28, 2007 8:32 pm

they look like they designed that in 5 minutes

  9. Comment by NewFoundMadness on August 28, 2007 8:34 pm

I wish they would have gone with the solid back with the hoops in front (like Reading or this year’s Bayern).

  10. Comment by Matthew on August 28, 2007 8:55 pm

the adidas strips on the away kit need to be blue

  11. Comment by Chazsoccer on August 28, 2007 8:58 pm

    Guys, guys …where’s the love?

I am happy about the blue hooped road kit,

I am happy about the white shorts on the road.

The little three stripes on the sleeves doesn’t bother me a bit.

  12. Comment by Pegasus on August 28, 2007 9:04 pm

Took me a [Stewey voice on] while [Stewey voice off] to figure out the stripes didn’t have angles but that they were resting on a box? which makes them look odd. Hoping that with numbers, patches and sponsor they look better.

  13. Comment by Profiled on August 28, 2007 9:06 pm

They actually aren’t placed on a box, and do appear to be at an angle…

  14. Comment by mudpoet on August 28, 2007 9:40 pm

f**k yeah! I can finally buy a road jersey, now that they switched to blue. I hated the gray.

  15. Comment by JasonB on August 28, 2007 10:10 pm

    watch that language,. Travis ;).

I guess this means I have until the start of next season to decide between a Denilson or Toja jersey.

  16. Comment by Buzz Carrick on August 28, 2007 10:11 pm

I think you can assume the three stripes are a contrasting colors so that they will be seen… money folks, money.

  17. Comment by texgator on August 28, 2007 10:15 pm

The away is a little too American flag-ish for my taste. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, per say, but that’s kind of New England’s deal. I love the home shirt though. I’m glad I never bought an 07 Home.

  18. Comment by Tony Payne on August 28, 2007 10:46 pm

    meh theyre okay
i dunno why adidas cant get hoops right like nike can but these are better than our current shoulder pad models at least

    +road blue hoops
    +road white sleeves
    -home red sleeves
    +white shorts
    -still no collar???

theyre definitely an upgrade but still not perfect

  19. Comment by twotone on August 28, 2007 11:07 pm

I’m kinda feeling the road blue hoops, but mainly because every other team in MLS has home blue uniforms and that means that we’ll get to wear our red hoops on the road instead of the blue hoops. The only places we’ll wear our blue hoops are Chicago ( out of spite), DC ( against the favorite son of the league), Chivas (vs. los Mexicanos), and TFC or RSL maybe.

This will be fun cuz we’ll get ot stay our normal colors/uniforms against most teams on the road rather than going with that gray. I dont mind the gray, but if we can stay true to our colors and kit, then why not do it???? DC United gets too.

  20. Comment by Sonny on August 29, 2007 3:35 am

Nice. I’m not crazy aout the slanted hoops and I wish one of them actually had a collar. Other than that, nice.

  21. Comment by Nathan on August 29, 2007 4:28 am

Took me a few minutes to get used to, but actually think it’s an improvement for home and away jerseys. I especially like what they did to the home jersey, but I agree with the previous comment that it would have looked more appealing if the shoulders were blue on the away.

There’s very few jersey designs out there that really impress me much and most “improvements” I see are steps backwards. If I was a Crapids fan I think I’d top myself after their “upgrade” this year, although some Crapids fans may feel like they don’t even need the jersey excuse.

The Man Utd jersey however is a definite improvement this year. (At least for me it is). I’m in love with that one.

Worst jersey I have seen this year - Pachuca. (no offense to any Pachuca fans intended). First time I’d seen them play was in Superliga. They look like some sort of 80s Sci-fi outfits, with a sponsor for every imaginable crevice.

I think a single sponsor with elegant branding can look appealing, but if you’ve gone to the extent of putting someone’s name on your duff then I think you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel.

  22. Comment by Balonpie on August 29, 2007 5:50 am

It could be worse… but for the love of swee clean Jeebus, why can we not get a freaking collar on those T-Shirts. Until they (adidas or FCD) decides to put on a collar they look like effing T-shirts.

  23. Comment by El Toro on August 29, 2007 6:38 am

Love the new road uni’s in blue. But the third color for the piping on the sleeves has to go.

  24. Comment by Prawn on August 29, 2007 6:38 am

The road kit should look good with Prawn across the back…

  25. Comment by marco4 on August 29, 2007 6:49 am

While I suppose I’ll get used to them - we usually do - I’m one who actually likes the road greys. Guess it’s time to get one.

Biggest disappointment in the kits for me - outside of being underwhelmed by the new jerseys - is that it will apparently be at least one more year without hooped socks. Distinctive and traditional all in one shot. Maybe next year…

  26. Comment by BOFA on August 29, 2007 6:54 am

Are the stripes odd or are the jerseys up on something (like a box)?

If not on a box, why can’t they just simply do hoops (ala Celtic)? Celtic pulls off the Hoops look extremely well.

  27. Comment by Warren on August 29, 2007 7:05 am

The jerseys probably look better on a torso than on a tabletop.

  28. Comment by Devil's Advocate on August 29, 2007 7:58 am

I’m sorry, those are hideous. Too busy. Please no blue stripes on top of red. Basic color theory here. I like our hoops but I’ve yet to see a Dallas kit that does it right.

    For good examples see:

    Those hoops look HORRIBLE!!!

Are they trying to make everyone look like they have a BEER GUT??????

Not a big fan of these. I like the current home jersey. I like the blue hoops for away much better than grey, but I just don’t like the layout of these at all.

  30. Comment by yt61 on August 29, 2007 8:34 am

i have one question, where’s the hooped socks? i think that would be a great addition to the uni and it would look slick.

  31. Comment by TexanGal on August 29, 2007 10:03 am

Blech! If you look at the last pic, you can tell by the material folds that the shirt is lying flat. No box underneath. Why would they want the hoops to appear rounded? chevrons? Blech.

    2. I agree with TexGator, the away with red, white, and bovine blue does look like the American flag.

    3. A collar would be a great addition to our jerseys. Adding class and style.

    4. BOFA’s got it right, Nike does hoops better than adidas.

We will certainly pass on buying jerseys this next season.

  32. Comment by captincanuck on August 29, 2007 10:57 am

The more i see them the more i like them in not going to lie. With name and number and such it shouldn’t looks so bad, and the slanted stripes most likely won’t look slanted when you wear it.

  33. Comment by BOFA on August 29, 2007 12:00 pm

“Blech! If you look at the last pic, you can tell by the material folds that the shirt is lying flat. No box underneath. Why would they want the hoops to appear rounded? chevrons? Blech.”

    Agreed if true.

but a fairly reliable source that saw the pic in the Adidas catalog says that the Hoops are straight around.

    Alos, where is this outlet??

  34. Comment by JA on August 29, 2007 12:04 pm

These need a wordmark in the worst way.

To me the top part is huge.

I agree with previous posters…why can’t we just get Hoops like Reading or Celtic, I don’t get the purpose of the rounded look.

But props for going to blue (though I don’t mind the gray look at all). I think it will look very sharp with the white.

  35. Comment by JC on August 29, 2007 2:38 pm

The solution is to not have away hoops. Go solid for the road kit.

  36. Comment by FC Uptown on August 30, 2007 9:29 am

Not a huge fan. Hoop socks? Those would be very Celtic-ish and cool.

  37. Comment by FC Uptown on August 30, 2007 9:31 am

    They need collars too.

  38. Comment by OkiePoke04 on August 30, 2007 6:51 pm

So am I correct in assuming that since there is no “FC Dallas” on the front, that they are saving room for a sponsor?

  39. Comment by obv on August 31, 2007 2:02 am

the hoops are just unbelievably ugly. i was wondering when the fad would pass and i cannot believe it has lasted this long. another season of my eyes bleeding

  40. Comment by Buzz Carrick on August 31, 2007 9:27 am

Okie, this design is made to fit a sponsor. But I have confirmation there is a wordmark version that will be used if FCD has not sold their jersey sponsorship yet.

By the way I applaud them for not going with Chico’s bail bonds like some other teams have and holding out for a top flight sponsor. At least they better be, if they go with Chico now I will be annoyed.

  41. Comment by Martin on September 4, 2007 2:08 pm

Not a fan of horizontal stripes, but these are much better offerings than the last couple of years since the switch, especially imagining numbers, nameplates, and the FCD wordmark on the front in the same style as this year.

    No shoulderpads = wonderful.

These jerseys are SO far the best striped jerseys.
    The blue looks excellent.

  42. Comment by FC Uptown on September 22, 2007 11:18 pm

Going with the blue also locks out a future team from becoming “Blue Hoops”.

The only thing I’m disappointed in is the pinstripes. Home should have white, road should have blue. What were they thinking?

  45. Comment by kieran on December 29, 2007 5:43 pm

as a celtic fan i am disgusted that the colour blue is being used in the same sentance as my club. Long live artur boruc

  46. Comment by Ze Bill on January 16, 2008 1:28 pm

this new hoops look is a lot more unified now that the hoops go all the way around, like hoops oughtta do, and the white-dominant shoulders are gone.

“mudpoet”’s comment (2 comments above) shows that “mudpoet” has an artistic vision superior to that of the powers that be.

I suppose FCD’ll wear its home red when visiting blue teams like KC?

    this is good. progess.

why cant they do hoops the right way? why does it look like FCD has no say in perfecting their jersey?

why is it that Premiership Kits look like their clubs would never accept that kit, and FCD, well we sit around and call it an improvement.

is it better? yes. but can we get the sweet Chelsea Addidas collar if we are stuck with adidas?

can we get them to look like they arent league 1 kits? can we get the hoops to look like celtic, why does it look like a cheap imitation?

yeovil town has better kits than that…

until MLS realizes that the whole package is important, i still am not sure if they get it. league 1 kits continuously just a little better?

its better. not that much better.
