Wheels Off on Denilson Signing
July 29th, 2007 . 9:02 am . By: Buzz CarrickRecent rumblings out of our various Frisco sources indicate that the Denilson signing is in trouble. The situation has apparently deteriorated even past what Morrow has indicated in the paper, “We’re still negotiating,” Morrow said. “Sometimes you think you’re close in negotiations and then you realize you’re not.” Our sources say it now appears the signing is looking unlikely to happen. Two weeks, give or take, remain till the summer window closes on August 15th and FCD is still in the market for a striker of DP caliber. Two weeks is not a lot of time in terms of making an international signing. It’s not to much of a stretch to think Morrow may have turned his eyes to other targets as the deadline approaches. 18 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

I can only hope that if this falls apart that FCD finds itself thankful in that Denilson goes somewhere else and under performs and that instead a better player is signed. How about ZZ for just the rest of this year with a one year option?
What is this? The fifth? Sixth time Dallas has failed to sign a potential DP.
Edgar Davids
Claude Makelele
Daniel Osorno
Jay Jay Okocha
Bruno Marioni
Chamagol
Denilson
Well, atleast they’re looking.
NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY IN DALLAS IN FRONT OF AN EMPTY STADIUM.
Well, after getting excited over the Davids and Makelele rumors – I’m not really surprised – but definitely disappointed. I think Morrow is a player or two away from having the team he wants. Which brings me to my next point, FCD needs to trade Ruiz ASAP. I have given him the benefit of the doubt for so long (even when he constantly loses possession, misses numerous opportunities, and whines like a baby back b*tch), but I just don’t think he is quick/athletic/productive enough for FCD (one of the real quality teams in the league) to rely on him to be our big goalscorer and pay him the $$ he makes. I personally think they should package Ramon and Ruiz together to get some cash and a player like Chris Rolfe, Jozy Altidore, Davy Arnaud, or maybe even Landon, but I know that is a stretch. By doing that, we get rid of a player that doesn’t want to be here, a player that makes way more than his production with indicate (Ruiz), and allow us to get a young, promising forward with extra cash to finally land a DP that will put FCD over the top.
Jay-Jay the Jet plane is still out there right? The front office needs to focus on him now.
I love this team and am a big fan, but I will be very disappointed if they do not bring an international talent in to finish out this roster. There is no excuse for leaving a gunfight with bullets still in the chamber unless your leaving as the victor. If this team does not use their DP slot and fails to bring home some major hardware this season, then I for one will be unmerciful in my ripping of the front office.
Okocha at attacking mid with Toja as a two way and RIcchetti as the defensive would be a fantastic midfield.
Buzz, any idea what kind of money we are talking? What has been offered and what Denilson wants?
You have to think Pareja and our South America scout crew have some additional contacts they are working.
Sorry Ed, I do not know what kind of money they are talking.
sonny,
when it does not work out it doesn’t mean that it should have worked out. sometimes it is just not the right fit and the FO figures it out…other times I am sure it is largely about money. Your right…at least they are looking and I am sure we only ever know a percentage about what is really going on.
All that Denilson hype for nothing??? Maybe Morrow did pull the pen right out of Denilson’s hand before signing, but whatever the reason maybe I really hope that FCD has a contract under way that no one has heard about. This team needs a booster shot, and a DP signing will be excellent as the team returns for the remainder of the season.
My guess is that many of the players looking to switch to MLS have viewed the ludicrous money involved with the Beckham deal and have at least made a determination to push for the same kind of outrageous money.
While Beckham’s intro might have raised MLS profile, it’s perhaps also made other players view it as a potential gold mine.
i.e players are asking for a lot more money than clubs are really willing to pay.
That’s just my guess…
[...] Brazilian Denilson after all. Reports are saying that two sides are still talking but a deal is very unlikely to happen at this point. Dallas, like the rest of the clubs in the world, only have two weeks left to sign [...]
buzz, I think we have a number of players out of contract after this year. Who do you think the team will try to resign and who will leave anyway. I thnk Toja’s loan would be up and Goodson, Nunez, Alvarez should be out of contract and many players lke Fish, Gbandi and Moor would be on option years.
Who do you see as players critical to this team going forward?
I can’t see FCD passing up on a buy of Toja. Mina I highly doubt will be back even though FCD has another year on his loan. Ricardinho will depend on how he plays over the season.
Nunez I expect to be gone very soon, Goodson will be resigned. Alvarez is still 50/50 and it might depend on what he is willing to play for. Gbandi and Moor I expect to be picked up. Ruiz quite frankly I would not be shocked to see have his option let pass then tried to re-sign for less. 5 goals is not worth $500k.
but there is a lot of season left.
Thanks buzz, it will be interesting to see if the players wishes match the club’s. Perhaps Alvarez , Goodson and Toja could decide that their value might be higher elsewhere (another country?). It will be a very interesting finish to the season followed by a very busy off season.
I’m looking forward to your end of season analysis of where we go from here.
I heard from and person who works in the FO tonight that the Denilson deal is DEAD.
I am hearing the same thing, trying to confirm.
