That is not the same Damian Alvarez. Pachuca’s Damian Alvarez is from Argentina. He played for River Plate before going to Mexico.

Ah D.J. – my witty friend, first of all I laughed twice, snorted once, and giggled several times. Couple of quick thoughts….

sad news, those refs are FifA sanctioned refs *sigh*, the ref last week was from Costa Rico; and Saturday’s ref was from Eygpt (I heard he even reffed is the all-red and yellow card WC2006).

Damian Alvarez…Pachuca…is that the same whiny Damian Alvarez we traded to NERevs back in 1998 for Oscar Pareja?

Was Toja off or playing it more conservatively, since the refs seemed to call any little touch from behind, and when he finally made a more classic “Toja move” at the end (grabbing a player’s shoulder to get at the ball), he got a yellow card?

The Chivas game seemed much more overtly physical than in this game. I did, however, notice that the Pachuca players would stomp a foot or an ankle whenever they thought they could get away with it. Or maybe that was my imagination . . .

At least it was an exciting game. I thought the work rate for FDC was awesome tonight. Alvarez had a great game. Richetti was the anchor that he alsways is. Saragosa still has some distribution issues, but was working his ass off and several times I noticed Carlos and Ricardhino tracking back to help on D. Toja looked to be off a little, but even 70% of Toja is better than 100% of Ramon.

The officiating was horrible, but the game was full of fast paced, physical, attacking soccer. We need more games in the MLS like this.
